Legacy Marriott or Hilton are pretty much useless if you ever want to build up enough points for more than a day or 2 of reward nights at a resort.

Not my experience at all. Haven’t paid cash for a hotel for personal use in years. 4 air 5 night stays on occasion

Hyatt points go alot further and ALOT better properties.

Have you stayed at a JW Marriott or the Ritz? Those are included in Marriott rewards points.

Once SPG and Marriott merge, what is the point spread going to be? I heard that your Marriott points will convert 3:1 for SPG

It really depends on where you travel to. Some of the points programs adjust so much it's hard to track. Marriott and Hilton probably have the most hotels across the world, and you can find a Hilton damn near anywhere. If you're looking for best bang for you buck, I'd consider Hyatt as well if the places you go have them. 7-10 days a year won't net you any great status unless you use a credit card so try and find out which chain offers the best low level point system and go from there. If you do use a CC, take that into consideration.

You probably enough to accrue those points. I'm Platinum Elite with Marriott and have a few hundred thousand rewards points. You need a minimum of 20-30 nights/year to get enough points to cover a vacation or multiple night stay. If they are only going to stay >10 nights a year, its not going to get them far with Marriott or Hilton.

You are correct, and the average reward requirement at a JW is 100k/night or more. An equal quality Hyatt property is ~30k points/night. That is the point I was making.

Recently paid 60,000 pts for the Ritz in Barcelona. That’s a $500 a night hotel on the beach. I’m gold elite which if you have the Marriott CC, is very easy to get.

They just opened a Premium Plus Card. 100,000 pts after a doable spend. Automatic gold with $35,000 a year spend or qualifing nights. It’s a $90 annual fee, but the free room each year makes up for that.

My favorite perk for Marriott gold is the free upgrade at every stay and late check at every stay. Late checkout at 4pm can change an entire vacation. Late flight? No problem. Spend the the day playing around. Shower at 3pm and head to airport. It routinely gives me an “extra day” on vacation.

Not sure. I haven’t linked my accounts yet. I tried but forgot passwords. They are giving you more points per dollar spend on their CC. I think 6x for Marriott spend and 2X on everything else. Not sure the conversion rate for redemption

Marriott works well for me but I travel weekly for work. On pace for about 150 nights this year.

I get 2 free weeks a year for the past decade through the Marriott visa. Got to platinum fast just in spending alone. Now that they bought Starwood and merged with Ritz it’s even better. Their latest card has good offers on points.

Surprised no love for IHG

Pretty solid rewards program, although I am disappointed these placed serious restrictions on their anniversary night program. It used to be no blackouts/no restrictions and now it is only up to 40,000 points I believe

In the past, it’s allowed me to stay at theVenetian in Vegas for free ($400 a night)

Not a big fan of Hilton rewards. Values are inflated, so it’s always a mental adjusment. Marriott is good if you travel a lot

Like many here, I’ve found Hyatt to be the best. I’ve redeemed $400/night rooms for 12k points
