What Hotel chain has the best reward program.
For years I used Hotels dot com because I would only take a few trips here and there and just wanted the free room. However, now the wife and I are making more of an effort to travel and we are spending 7-10 days a year in Hotels. I am leaning towards the Mariott brand/program, but wanted to see if anyone has better experience

I've had pretty good success with Hilton and Marriott..They both link to cars/airlines so its easy to double dip sometimes..They both own plenty of hotels that don't necessarily carry their name (Marriott=Astor)

I have at minimum two week long work trips a year for various conferences. My company typically pays for all employees through a master bill rather than have the employees pay and file for reimbursement.
I just found out that Hilton does not award points if you are booked through a master bill like that. It sucks. Those are a lot of nights that I get no benefits for.

I've been mostly using Hilton for the past few years and loved the way they treated me as a diamond member.
Marriott just sent me an email out the blue for a 100,000 point sign up bonus for their card, so I'm all in with them for the next year or so.

Hyatt or SPG (now owned by Marriott)
Legacy Marriott or Hilton are pretty much useless if you ever want to build up enough points for more than a day or 2 of reward nights at a resort.
Hyatt points go alot further and ALOT better properties.

Yeah, I definitely see better and easier redemptions with Hyatt than I have with the others. As for perks, I usually don’t have enough nights to get anything special.

7-10 nights per year won't get you much at any chain. The best approach to maximize your hotel rewards is to:
1) get a hotel specific credit and get the max signup bonus
2) get a Chase Sapphire (Preferred or Reserve) and maximize your rewards points and signup bonus

This is what I assumed and why I threw that fact out there. We are now at the point that the free room isn't worth always being next to the stairs/elevators

Been using this method for awhile to rack up the points. I'll have to look into a hotel specific card to see which would work better for me.

A Hyatt Place/ Hyatt House can be had for as little as 5-8k pointer per night.
The highest end Hyatt properties are only 25-30k points per night.
My wife & I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Kauai for 6 nights @ 27k per night AND we got upgraded to a suite that was $1200/night.
You earn Hyatt points around the same as Hilton/Marriott, you can just redeem them for much much more.

Marriott here. I'd say stick to one. Hilton offers a matching level of status.

Marriott did the Platinum Challenge a couple of years back. If you're a pretty busy business traveler, I would call and inquire.

I've been very happy with World of Hyatt. I get free nights often and you can use points + cash to get a reduced rate at most properties. Any MGM Resort also allows you to earn Hyatt points and nights.

Been a diamond with hilton for nearly 10 years, and sprinkle in marriott stays when I can or if I prefer a particular property. I maintain gold with marriott.
In anticipation of the merger going final with SPG as well as the 100k marriott credit card sign on bonus, I've started to focus a lot more on Marriott. It really depends on how frequently you travel, and if you're going to the same cities all the time, which particular hotels are the nicest (within your budget) in each city.
I've done very well with point accumulation and reward stays through both chains, but I also travel a ton for work, so it's easy for me to rack up points.

Really bizarre how TD is almost prescient sometimes. Read this thread today and just took a phone call from a client who related he is currently in Grand Cayman. He then told me that he has recently switched from Hilton (he was a Diamond) to Marriott and is killing it with the points. He said he is at the Ritz on points and paying the equivalent of what Hilton would charge him to stay at the Embassy Suites south of the DFW airport. Said he is never going back to Hilton.
