Have a quick trip to Alex with the family, is this place still nice? Stayed there back in 90's but have not been in that area in many years. Any info appreciated

Alexandria is the 2nd worst city as far as crime is concerned in the state…might be better off getting a hortel in Pineville or kingsville…have a couple nice ones on the Monroe hwy…my 2 cents

Stayed there recently and its not a bad area IMO

The restaurant isnt bad and there isnt really anything to do other than walk up to the river walk.

There is an Irish Pub across the street.

It is still very nice.

The mirror room is an actually a very cool bar downstairs.

There is an awesome little diner just down the street in a small grocery store. Can’t think of the name offhand but great breakfast if you want something less expensive than the hotel restaurant.

You’d think people on this board never leave their houses with all the crime fear mongering

Agree, no threat downtown; just nothing to do other than those few bars

Agreed. Did my residency right around the corner at Rapides. I used to go on many a walk in the parking lots late at night on the overnight shifts. The area is more than safe. I wouldn’t venture too far from it though

I used to run in downtown Alexandria early in the morning and never felt unsafe. Never saw a busted car window either, unlike Nola.

It could be a nice little downtown but unfortunately it's dead like the rest of the place. It's sad.

I’ve been down there several times for Grand Lodge and we’ve never had an issue with that area of Alexandria. The city has put a lot of work into their downtown and it’s much nicer than it was when I was stationed at Ft. Polk 20 years ago.

The hotel is beautiful and has a ton of history.

The bar is nice. You can drink cheaper and get some food across the street at Tasting Room of Louisiana (dark bar with character).

Diamond Grill down the street is a good restaurant (steak, seafood, pasta) on the "upscale" end for Alex.

I know people who stay there for work often, and I've heard no reports of car break-ins or other crime issues.

That part of downtown Alexandria isn't bad.

However, the war zone isn't too far away.

It definitely changes a couple blocks from there. That part of Alexandria is not bad at all. The riff raff doesn’t venture out of their areas.

You might be better off staying close to the mall if you’re looking for more to do.
