I can't believe I'm asking for NYC help, as I lived there for years and used to be other people's go to...but that was a long time ago, so:

Looking for advice on getting a hotel for the Heisman next weekend. The gala is at the Marriott Marquis (sold out) but looking to stay near there. Ideally, would want a very comfortably sized 2-bed room (or suite) somewhat proximal.

I can see all the current offerings on Hotels.com, but was wondering if anyone had tips on how to find things not listed on there.

Also, several places seem to have decent suites, but with just a king bed. Any idea on if they can substitute those out for 2 doubles or whatever if I call and specify?

Budget is up to $2K/night.

TIA.

The only way to see offerings not listed on Hotels .com would be to use other travel sites like Expedia/TravelAdivsor. From my experience, Hotels .com has the best representation of hotels and lodges out of any other online site.

I did a quick look and it does not seem like there are many multi-room suites left in the area around times square. I even checked AirBnB and its just people renting our 1 bedroom stays.

Lastly, Hotels do not typically change the bedding situation in rooms other than what is advertised. If you see a suit with 1 king bed. Very few, if any, hotels will switch that out with a 2 bed suite

Have you tried Times Square Edition? It’s a Marriott property. I would recommend. Stayed there for Christmas last year.

I did see it - the rooms look quite small, but otherwise it looks really cool. How were the bathrooms?

The bathrooms were fine. I wouldn’t stay there for the bathrooms specifically. But also wouldn’t NOT stay there bc of them.

I was upgraded due to status. High floor overlooking TS. The gym was legit. 11th floor overlooking TS. Restaurant was nice. Bathrooms didn’t stick out one way or another.

The one I'm looking at is the "premier suite" which appears to be high floor on a corner with a balcony. Could you see the river from your room also?

No. Way too many buildings in the way

Have you tried Trip Advisor? I’m sure they have dozens of user submitted photos of the view, bathrooms, etc.

Yep, found some decent ones. Thanks for the recommendation on this. I made a refundable reservation via Hotels, so might still shop around a bit.

Call the hotels. Desk people can often find rooms that aren't listed online, especially the 3rd party sites because they all cost the hotel money. So they may only put something like 80% of their rooms on hotels.com. I haven't been in the business for awhile, but calling definitely still helps especially last minute.

Awesome, thanks for the tip!

Our go-to is Hotel Beacon in UWS. Get a family suite, it’s a mini apartment with a kitchen. It’s not in Times Square, but it’s 2 blocks from the 72nd st station with an express to Times Square (takes less than 5 mins).

Check out Hotel Edison. They have a family suite with two rooms and three queen beds, I believe.

If you have any kids/women in your group, the Edison also has a restaurant in the lobby called Friedman's (it's a local chain) that has servers who sing broadway songs from 6-8-ish every night.

Hopefully, if you are in New York City, you’re spending very little time in your hotel room, go with something that is clean and reliable and don’t overthink it

I got the suite at the Edition that the other poster recommended the other day.

I'm taking a very elderly person to the ceremony, so we don't have the option to just bop around constantly - need something spacious, amenable and comfortable.

SUPER frickING PUMPED AFTER THE UW WIN!!!! When I pulled the trigger on the tickets, Nix was the favorite!

I wouldn’t stay in Times Square for free. It’s been a shite hole since covid. Hoodlums hanging about then following tourists back to their hotels. My now 14 year old and I missed the 2010 car bomb by hours. F Times Square.

Nix showed he is NOT a leader by sitting on the bench after the game with a towel over his head while his team congratulated UW on the win
