Planning a trip to Portland for Labor Day weekend Thurs-Mon. We are looking to hike and drink. So far I’m planning to arrive thurs and stay in Portland the first night, Great Notion and dinner. Friday morning head to Cannon Beach and Ecola Park for the day, then on to stay the night in Astoria and hit up Fort George brewery. Saturday we would head to the Columbia George and would like to find a good winery to visit. Sunday just stay in Portland and brewery hop before flying out Monday morning.
These plans can change it’s just what I’ve come up with from scrolling the other Portland threads. Any recommendations would be very appreciated. Great Notion, Fort George, Modern Times and Deustches are the breweries i would like to visit. Any other brewery, food, hiking or in general things to do we are open to.

On Sunday go to the Portland market down by the river. Lots of cool vendors selling tons of items. Go snag lunch or dinner at the Portland City grill. It’s on the 30th floor, best view of the city & good food.

Breweries:
Portland: Basecamp They have a dark beer I enjoyed. Cascade for sours.
Colombia River Gorge/Hood River: pFreim
We went to Willamette for wine, so can’t help you with the ones in the CRG.
I generally eat at least one Asian food restaurant on visits to the west coast. Had Thai at Pok Pok. Long wait, but it was really good. Great ice cream across the street at Salt & Straw if you have room for it. These are extremely popular places, so I try to mix in neighborhood restaurants too, which I think Portland does well. The market is awesome as the other poster said. Have a good time!

It's sat and sun, called the sat market. I'd rather go drink, eat, and hike.

I don't enjoy bums bugging me for change whilst I eat my food.

I guess I've been there too many times. It's ok, I've never once thought it was awesome.

After the market is over the bums take cover in the same spot as the market under the Burnside bridge and there's a big shelter 2 blocks away so dealing with them will most certainly happen.

My bad, maybe my use of “awesome” was too strong of a word. Cool out. I wasn’t bugged by bums the one time I went there. I was in other places as there are a lot of them. I honestly don’t let them bug me though.
I think it’s a good spot for tourists, especially with a female in a group, to visit bc quick and easy food and shopping. We stayed not too far from there so it didn’t take up too much of our day.
Instead of criticizing others... maybe you can give alternatives. Like help him pick out some hiking spots bc nobody has mentioned any or a way to kill a couple of hours in an afternoon in Portland.

Please quote where I criticized anyone. I just disagreed and said skip it. Eta....another reason I would skip it is there's a lot to see and do and OP has little time.

I planned on giving a few tips. Just haven't yet.

Love Cannon Beach and Ecola.

Ecola has a hike from the overlook to Indian Beach. That's a great hike. The only thing is it's one way back and forth unless someone drives from one to the other so your car is waiting.

In Cannon Beach, if you want a simple lunch with a great view, Mo's has a great location. The food is good, not great, but you get incredible views in a casual setting if you're hiking. If you want someplace in town more, my wife loves Crepe Neptune and Pizza a Fetta has good pizza.

I'm assuming you want to hike in Ecola. If you're up for going 5-15 min south of town, Hug Point and Arcadia Beach are nice. There's a great hike to a cool beach in Oswald West State Park, about 15 min south of CB. Short Sands Trail, and it leads you to a beach with caves and a small waterfall.

Check out Multnomah Falls, which I believe is right outside of Portland. Tallest waterfall in Oregon

If going to the coast, I would go to Tillamook (hit up De Garde Brewing) and drive north to Cannon Beach from there. The drive between Tillamook and Cannon Beach is spectacular. The drive from Cannon Beach to Astoria doesn't have a lot of ocean views. The Tillamook Cheese Factory is also a good spot. Great ice cream.

Angels Rest Trail or Horsetail Falls in the Gorge for hiking. Angels Rest is a pretty good hike that will put you to work but the views are amazing once you make the top.

Cape Lookout is my favorite trail on the OR coast. It's just outside of Tillamook and is well worth the drive. Neahkahnie is another really good one on the coast.

I was going to suggest Angels rest. One of the best river views you'll get in the gorge.

Too bad it no longer looks like your pics.

Did you hike all the way to triple falls before turning back?

Hiking near the coast, good easy ones already mentioned.

Saddle Mountain is 15 min drive from sunset highway (26). It's 2.5 miles one way. Takes a bit of time so not everyone on a schedule does this hike.

If it's clear out the best view of the coast is up there.

City is super easy to navigate and is divided in four quadrants: NE, SE, SW, NW

Don't even bother with SE/downtown. It's overrun with bums and you aren't missing anything.

NW is full of breweries in the Pearl District. The popular ones like 10 Barrel are overwhelmed on nice summer days. Slabtown is the newest development in the NW and Breakside is a great brewery option up there. Joe's Celler and Yurs are world class dive bars. 21st and 23rd are full of great bars and restaurants, 23rd has some nice shops as well. 21st Ave Bar was a favorite of mine to get a cheap beer and sit outside on a nice day.

NE has great areas like Albina and Mississippi. Bar Bar on Mississippi has awesome burgers and cheap drinks. It has an awesome patio and is a really fun crowd when it's nice outside. Albina/Mississippi definitely fit in to the hipster vibe you'd think of Portland.

SE is probably the most authentic Portland you'd expect in your mind. Although areas like Hawthorne are now just as expensive as the high end Pearl District. Belmont is my favorite part of the SE and has an awesome stretch of bars. Reel M Inn is another world class dive bar with some of the best fried chicken you'll ever have.

I guess I focused more on drinks than food. There's so much amazing food to be had, just search for a cuisine and it's really hard to go wrong.

Another easy hike would be to do City Park up to PIttock mansion. I like starting at Lower Macleay (?) in the NW and making it up to the mansion. Awesome views of the city but it is very crowded. You could call an uber from there to your next destination.

Yep, I guess I should have mentioned the gorge fires and how a lot has changed. Unfortunately I moved not long after those fires and I heard some of the trails have been permanently altered.

As for Horsetail, you always have to go to the triple falls. The crowds dramatically thin out and I prefer the triple falls anyways.

Is there a Hilton property you would recommend staying at on Portland? Right now I have the Embassy Suites downtown booked but I can change that if another area would be better.

That Embassy is in the middle of the shitshow that is downtown Portland. Stay at the Hilton property in the Pearl District, I believe it's right near Pho Van Fresh.

If OP just wants a view close to the Cape Lookout one you posted, there's a scenic pullout on the south end of Oswald West that you can get from the car without a hike.

One of the things I like about that stretch of Oregon is you can either take longer hikes or just do scenic viewpoints and catch a lot.

I believe there is a Hampton Inn in the Pearl District, as well.

My recommendation would be to go to Hotwire and reserve one of their hot deals. Right now, you can get a 4.5 star hotel for less than $150, and it's likely The Dossier, which is in an excellent location. I think the Canopy (a Hilton property) is $237/night, straight up, no guessing.

ETA: The shitshow area of downtown is mostly the area within 4-5 blocks of the river and 3-4 blocks of Burnside.
