I searched and read through a lot of the Asheville threads, and have a pretty good idea of what to do there, but I need help on a few things.

2 adults, probably spending 3-4 nights in Asheville in late October. Planning on spending a full day at Biltmore, and a full day along the Blue Ridge Parkway checking out the fall foilage.

Here is where I need some help / thoughts / recs:

1) Want to get some kind of cabin in the mountains. Anyone have any good recs of specific cabins / areas / websites to use? I looked on VRBO and felt it was kind of meh, especially compared to Gatlinburg area. Doesn't need to be huge since only 2 people.

2) Trying to decide between two options:

Option A is to fly into Asheville late on a Wed night night, do the two things mentioned above Thurs and Fri, then find something else to do Sat and then Sun before flying home.

Option B is to fly into Atlanta late on a Wed night, spend Wed night in Atlanta, spend Thursday doing tourist stuff in Atlanta, drive Thursday evening to Asheville (looks like about 3 hours drive). then do the above mentioned stuff Friday and Saturday, then Sunday, drive back to Atlanta, and maybe do something else in Atlanta Sunday afternoon, then fly back Sunday night.

Reasons to do Atlanta would be better/cheaper flight availability, and not sure what else there is to do in Asheville for another day and a half. I'm a little concerned about how the drive from Atlanta to Asheville is, especially after dark - anyone done this?

personally, I would not do atlanta. pre-covid, I was able to get a direct flight to charlotte and drive to Asheville from the Charlotte airport, about a 2 hour drive, most of it fairly scenic.

I've stayed in a cabin about an hour from Asheville near Lake Lure and chimney rock before, but I'd want to stay in Asheville proper atleast 2 nights to really enjoy the restaurants and brewery scene. Just my 2 cents. check out the lake lure/chimney rock area on vrbo, I think that's where I found our cabin. It was in the woods right on the Broad River and not far off the main highway.

October should be a great time to get outdoors, the weather should be phenomenal .

Consider Lake Lure/Chimney Rock, NC 30 minutes to Asheville but rural in the mountains, Chimney rock is a great town...Google earth it. We stayed last November, you'll thank me...DO IT!

Atlanta sucks. College football hall of fame is cool, but I wouldn't go to Atlanta just for that. I spent about a week there over two trips last year and there's not that much to do.

It's closer to 4 hours, potentially more depending on traffic in Atlanta when you leave. I'd check flights into Charlotte. It's closer to 2 hours from Asheville.

But the drive once you get out of Atlanta is a breeze. I've gone the route up 985 to Franklin, NC, then shot over from there to Asheville. It'd be a really pretty drive in October if you did it during the day.

Was thinking fly in late, wake up, college football hof, world of coke, lunch at Varsity, then either CNN Tour if it's reopened, or Civil Rights Museum if CNN still closed, then hit the road.

Look at flying SW into Greenville, can get rd trip for under $200 depending on the days.

Is it difficult to get an Uber from GSP to Asheville? Their fare estimator shows like $120 for the trip while the car service I talked to quoted $290.

ETA - don't want to mess with rental car because of parking at condo and we have a ride back to GSP with friends.

I’ve never tried to get one. But you can go on uber and try to schedule one ahead of time and see if you get someone who accepts the ride.
