Went to Maui recently. I had a good time and it was really nice, but I did find it extremely overrated.
IF I ever went back it would be to Kauai. I've heard great things and I would make it a more relaxing trip.
I think I tried to do too much in Maui.

For real. Hawaii is awesome. Like others have said if you just want to sit on a beach sure Mexico is cheaper and would probably be a better option.

We can fly dirty cheap
If this is the case, just about any destination is “worth it.” Airfare is a huge cost

I agree. Hawaii is a must see. Oahu is not nearly as exotic as the other islands since it is crowded and urban. but, a one day visit to see pearl harbor is worthwhile. Maui is beautiful. The big island volcanos are remarkable to visit.

It was on my bucket list and I'm glad I've been there and done it. Would love to go back one day to experience more of it if I can.
If you are looking for a cheaper option, try bed and breakfasts.
I do think the food is a little pricey and not like South LA are used to but that's getting picky.
It's some of the most beautiful scenery you will ever see.

Wife wants to go. Im not motivated enough to go there. Seems overrated. We can fly dirty cheap cause my MIL works for major airline. If we go it will be the first and last time. The best and most affordable I've seen so far is the Outrigger Reef at Waikiki. Thoughts please?
I go every year at least once. Usually to Maui. You can rent a timeshare property through Redweek.com usually a better deal than getting a hotel and the resorts are great. Look at the Marriott Ocean club in Maui. When are you looking to go? I have one that is available over Christmas.

I’ll never go back to Hawaii to be honest. Zero reason to go there when Mexico is so much closer and much better quality.

Yes, go to pearl harbor, take surfing lessons with hook up surfing, go visit the north shore.
Go to Maui, go snorkeling with the turtles, go watch the sunrise from the volcano, then bicycle down.
Go to the big island and visit volcanoes national park, go hiking, biking heli touring.
Those are the only 3 islands I have been to, can't wait to go back and go to Kauai.

Hawaii is awesome, but it is really expensive and far away.I personally would say do costa rica over hawaii.
I wouldn't do waikiki that is for sure. Just too crowded.
It is far and expensive. I am glad I have gone but won't go again unless someone else pays.

I just posted on the Hawaii honeymoon thread. Basically its awesome and I wish my wife and myself had never come home.

Only been once (Oahu but would absolutely go again). It’s only a 5-6 hour direct flight from PHX so makes it even more desirable.
Much rather Hawaii than Mexico. Too much cartel related danger right now in Mexico. Even the touristy areas that were supposed to be safe being affected. Plus..Hawaii is just a million times better scenery wise.
Eta: I could easily find flights to Hawaii from where I live for around $500. The time I went found a special on Hawaiian Airlines for $350

Mexico is a bad example for sure. I could buy Costa Rica and even parts of the Far East for terrain and activities but both lack the culture of Hawaii. I would never try to convince anyone to go that doesn’t want to go..find something you both want to do. It shouldn’t be that hard.
