I just locked in a trip for Spring 2023 and am planning to snorkel and take a helicopter ride to the Blue Hole. Still working out details. Have any of you done this? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I have been diving in the blue hole. Can't say the trip is worth it if you're just going to snorkel. Especially if you're taking a helicopter.

A few years back, I stayed at Hamanasi in Hopkins Village and did a few dives on the Blue Hole. It was beautiful and diving it was amazing. When we were ascending one dive from 90' to 70', there was an entire layer of sharks but just in that 20' range. I don't know if it was a certain pressure or temperature range, but the sharks were stacked in it.
As far as snorkeling it, I don't know. I remember a really nice sandy area that sloped downward and had quite a bit of fish around the rim.
The most interesting dive spot was called the Aquarium. That's where you need to snorkel. It was maybe only 20' deep but contained so many fish. Supposedly it was where the live a board dive vessels anchor and dump their food scaps in the water. So when a vessel pulls up the fish swarm and it looked like an aquarium.

that's a long way to go just to float on top of the water.

If you are snorkeling, do Hol Chan reef reserve. It's easy / quick to get to from Ambergris or Caye Caulker. There are many options for tour operators. Pick one with a nice catamaran. You can also tack on swimming with the nurse sharks (separate location from the reef), which was a pretty cool experience.

Dove it long time ago while on live aboard boat trip. Was fun experience but we went so deep there wasn’t much to see other than rock formations.

Did it last year so it's off the list, wouldn't go back.
