Gonna go ahead and apologize ahead of time, I don’t frequent this board, but I assume this topic gets beat into the ground...

Anyways, fiancé and I are getting married, and are trying to book a honeymoon for the middle of july. It’s been a busy year for us so far, with planning and paying for a wedding, buying a new car, and house - so everything has happened kind of fast, so financially, the honeymoon took a backseat...

Do you guys have any ideas for honeymoon type vacations on the coast? We considered other options, but we’ve found that with airfare and everything else, going too far away from home is too expensive. I’m not really sure what exactly I’m looking for, as I don’t travel much outside of just the regular summer beach trips.. does anyone have any suggestions? Looking for a 3/4 night stay without spending more than $1500-2000. Would like it to have a ‘honeymoon’ type feel, instead of just a basic condo if possible

Thanks in advance, sorry if this is a stupid question

Maybe the Grand Hotel in Fairhope?

I think you'll get a better bang with a cruise with your budget.

Good option in Destin.
Also:

Watercolor Inn - in Watercolor on 30a

The Pearl Inn - Rosemary Beach on 30a

All are not cheap though, look like they start around $450/ night. You may be able to get a better deal that was just a quick search out my own personal curiosity.

This would be my suggestion. It's a beautiful place and one of the best resorts in the gulf south. Just finished a multi million dollar renovation and added as well as spruced up their restaurants. The pool is pretty damn nice and they have drink waiters both there and out on the little beach area.

The hotel is in Point Clear, but it's a short drive to Fairhope, which is a cool arse little town with good restaurants/bars/shopping.

The other suggestion of the Pearl and Watercolor Inn are also solid suggestion.

I think a carriage houses in Seaside could be cool too (if you can find one this late). The wife and I have stayed in this one. Super cozy and we enjoyed our time there.

Yeah, no commercial high rises, so the entire peninsula is just small vacation rental type homes. Very small town feel. You have a bay on one side and the gulf on the other. Nice, quiet getaway. It’s a little over and hour past Panama City.

I love it as much as anyone, but not sure I'd recommend someone going there for their first time for their honeymoon. There's really no restaurants or very very few, and you'd have to make all your meals basically daily after shopping 30-45 mins away from wherever you stay. Nothing wrong with that and I tour'd europe for my Honeymoon through VRBO's, but its not the traditional kick back and relax and do nothing honeymoon.

And what's wrong with that? If you will both enjoy it, and you find it relaxing, then go fishing for your honeymoon.

Save your money for a trip this fall, when you have a bit more time to plan and to decide where you really want to go. Who says "honeymoon" has to be a big deal? Do what makes you happy, not what you think will sound good to other people.

Why don't you postpone the honeymoon until you have more money saved to take the honeymoon you really want? Absolutely nothing wrong with doing that. I know many that have done that.

We took ours several months after our wedding because we didn't want to honeymoon where we went during their rainy season.

It still very much felt like a honeymoon and we had an amazing time.

Also...if you are going anywhere on the gulf coast in july...the beaches will all be heavily crowded. And...all places will charge their peak summer rates. You could always wait until say early October and go then. Rates will be MUCH cheaper and the beaches far less crowded. Weather will still be nice enough to enjoy the beach(and MUCH less hot and humid). Will give you more a honeymoon feel as well cause not so many kids and families on the beach. Just make sure to get good trip insurance in case a pesky hurricane pops up.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I’d be more than happy to go the camp, but we already go at least twice a month

We might just wait. I’m really not sure what to do, we bit off more than we could chew financially in such short notice. Sucks admitting that, but t is what it is
