Good place to stop on the way to the Gatlinburg, Sevierville area from BR?

Heading to the Smokies this summer with the family. I haven't been up there since I was a kid. I'm thinking about breaking the drive up there into 2 days. Does anyone have a good suggestion on a place to spend the night that may have something cool to do?

Huntsville has the space center and museum.
Not sure what you’re looking to get into.

Rent a cabin at Desoto State Park in Fort Payne, home to the band Alabama.
The Little River Canyon area is definitely a great drive with stops along the way.

Look up Bear Creek log cabins just outside of Fort Payne, AL. Last time we went to Gatlinburg we stayed there in Fort Payne and visited the Desoto State park like a prior poster mentioned as well as little river canyon. It is a beatiful area. The cabins were great and we will stay there again.
