Never been this part of US before.

Can I see all three places in a week?

Where should I stay in San Francisco that's in a good part of Town?

Thanks fellas

What time of year? Parts of Yosemite may be closed due to snow depending on when you go. If you like to hike, there are many good ones in Yosemite. I would also try to work in Kings Canyon and Sequoias as a day trip one day from Yosemite.

Skip SF. Alot of my friends are coming back saying what a mess it is right now with rampant problems with the homeless.

Fly into Reno/Tahoe and head to Yosemite from there.

I'd replace San Fran with San Diego. But, you can still have a great time in San Fran.

Spend more time in Yosemite, less in SF. Tahoe may be too far out. If you’re gonna go for a drive do Hwy 1 to Big Sur.

It also makes a difference when you’re going; Yosemite would be snowy in winter, might not be a fun drive.

I'm going in 2 weeks.

Thinking about staying near the pier 39 or Chinatown?

The Misses wants to see the redwood you can drive through.

If you're in Tahoe area, check out Emerald Bay. It's just a short drive from South Lake Tahoe.

You hike up to Eagle lake? Amazing views from up there, summer or winter.

No I did not, but we did make it down to Bliss state park and hiked the Rubicon for a ways, the cliffs were amazing.

Should I get a tour guide for Yosemite or just explore myself?

Do it yourself, for the most part. You may be interested in certain tours once inside the park. Something like the valley floor tour. If you are active and like to hike, Yosemite has some good ones. Consider entering the lottery for half dome if hiking is your thing. There are other great hikes, and this one will take a day of your time, so you may choose not to based on the time you have.
If you plan to stay in the park start looking for a room ASAP. Rooms book up fast, but people cancel all of the time and you should be able to find a room if you are persistent. Check the website multiple times a day until you find what you want. We stayed in Yosemite valley lodge A couple of nights. Room was very generic, but convenient to everything in Yosemite valley. We also stayed in Big Trees Lodge a couple of nights. Formerly Wawona, then Big Trees, now Wawona again. Lots of character and close to Mariposa Grove. Sequoia/Kings Canyon is about 2.5hr drive from Wawona and can be made a day trip out of. It’s hard to fathom how big and old those trees are. Stop at one of the many fruit stands along the way if fruit is in season. The peaches and nectarines grown in the area are awesome.

We did a trip similar to what you are planning, but excluded San Francisco. Flew into Sacramento, drove to Yosemite and stayed there a few days, the drove to South Lake Tahoe. Yosemite to Tahoe is a little over 4 hours. As far as national parks go, Yosemite might be my favorite. Toss up between there and Yellowstone.

Muir Wood outside of SF for the redwoods. The Pelican Inn notvtoo far past was a good spot for some grub.

I really enjoyed the audio tour of Alcatraz. It was worth it to me.

The rest of SF...I would skip in a heartbeat.

Yosemite was beautiful.

I didn't do Tahoe.

Safe travels

On the contrary, I'd skip Muir Woods and Alcatraz, which I find boring as shite.

Yes, but Yosemite has limited access, except for summer months (because of snow). 3 days in Yosemite. Tahoe is about a two hour drive to get there. Ride around the lake takes one hour. Small villages and towns nearby are neat to tour. Go into Nevada and see Carson City....Truckee on the north shore......drive west on I 80 gets you back to the Bay Area (2-3 hr drive). San Francisco has a lot, depending on what you are looking for. Scenery wise, go over to Marin and head up to the top of Mt Tam.........great view of the bay and city from there!

I second that Mount Tam view. Spectacular. And hardly anyone goes up there
