What is the best hotel for a Chiefs game? Would love to walk there, or at least be a short uber trip away. Also, any other recommendations for things to do during December with a 9 year old boy.

The stadium is in the middle of nothing, two hotels in walking distance but neither are anything to recommend. I'd look for something downtown and Uber over.
Things to do with a 9 year old:
Union Station
WWI Museum
Steamship Arabia Museum
The Plaza at night will be pretty cool for the Christmas lights

Don't stay near the stadium. It's not in a nice area and there is nothing around it.
Stay Downtown around Power and Light, in the Plaza area, or in Crossroads.
Loews is nice spot right between Crossroads and downtown. Downtown has come solid hotels, including Hotel KC and its restaurant, Town Company, which is one of the best restaurants in town.
Personally, my favorite part of town is Crossroads. Has by far the highest concentration of great restaurants, bars, breweries, and is walkable. Stay at Crossroads hotel and walking distance to some of the best dining in the city. My favorite restaurant, Farina, is just around the corner.
Plaza also has some nice hotel and a fair amount of dining options.

Went to a preseason game in August ....stayed near the country club Plaza area and was nice area.
Near Jack Stack and Joe's BBQ (KCK).
Not far from the WW1 museum complex.

Stay near the plaza, the stadium is in the hood. The plaza is a large walkable area with bars, restaurants, shopping, etc... Been there forever.
P&L is another choice but it's manufactured fun and I'm not in into that.

Only rec i have is Betty Rae's ice cream. Several shops around the area and it is really good. My kids and I go out of our way for it when passing through KC area.

Thank all of you for the recs. This helps a lot. I started to get suspicious of the hotels near the stadium when the prices were in the 50s per night.
