My family goes to Breckenridge every summer for a few weeks. Two years ago I hiked Mount Quandary to check off my first 'fourteener' / 14'er. I'd like to do at least one more this summer. So looking for some suggestions for a semi-easy 14'er near Breckenridge.

Here are my only criteria: drive time to the trailhead from Breck less than 1.5 hours, and total roundtrip hike time less than 6 hours. I consider myself pretty fit - for reference Quandary roundtrip took me 3 hours 45 minutes.

I'm considering a Grays / Torrey combo peak hike, or the four peaks near Alma - Mount Democrat, Lincoln, Bross and Cameron. Another option I researched is Mount Bierstadt.

I know there are several others in the Twin Lakes / Buena Vista area but I'm not sure realistically the drive time.

Seeking input for those that have done these hikes or any others nearby. Thanks

Mt. Sherman from the Park County side comes to mind.

Like an hour from Breck to trailhead near Fairplay. One of the easiest 14ers, making it ideal if coming for a quick visit.

Thanks Duke! I did some research and this one appears to be a solid candidate. As you noted, it's just over an hour drive so not bad at all.

Is there another route up from the west side? I see a route down HWY 91 from Copper and through Leadville. I've always wanted to visit Leadville.

I do see another trail coming from Iowa Gulch. I may do that and then visit Leadville for lunch and a beer afterwards.

You could climb the tallest one, Mt. Elbert.

It's definitely on my list. But if I'm seeing this correctly, it looks like the trailhead is about 1 hour 20 minutes from Breckenridge. The roundtrip hike is approximately 9 miles and almost 5K of elevation gain. I have to think that will take 6 hours on a good day. So with the drive time there and back, and the hike time, I would need to block pretty much a full day (or most of a day).

I'm not sure if that's doable on this trip but I may certainly try. It would be nice to check of the tallest mountain in Colorado.

Yes. Theres a way back on Lake Co Hwy 1 or 2... cant remember off hand. Out in the Iowa Gulch. Thats my typical approach, as i live in Lake Co. Trailhead isnt marked at all. Ill take some pictures next time im out there to explain how to get there.

You could do Elbert but it is extra driving and a couple thousand extra vertical gain.

We watched the Saints beat the piss out of Brady and the Bucs there in 2020 when we were in Leadville. Cool place.

Elbert is one of the easier 14ers if you’re in solid shape and is definitely doable from Breck if you’re fine with committing a day to it.

I’d get an early start so you’re heading back below the treeline by lunch.

Beware of the false summits, learned that one the hard way!

Not a 14er, but Baldy is right there in Breck, not crowded, and one of my favorite peaks in Colorado. The 14ers are pretty crowded so the 13ers are my favorite of the two. Peak 1 in Frisco is also a lot of fun.

Do the DeCaLiBron loop (Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln, Bross), just over Hoosier Pass from Breck. Park up at Kite Lake and get to walking.

We stayed at a 3 bed room condo in Breck last June cheaper than the Orange Beach condo this past May. We stayed on French Street. Everything in town was walking distance.
Ten Mile Suites by Alpine Edge was the place
