Referring to the Narrows.

You'll be walking on rocks. Eventually you'll put your feet/toes in between rocks and you'll feel it. Oh you will feel it.

Tennis shoes are a minimum but I can see the rentals used by folks as a good idea along with a stick if walking rivers is something new to you.

I suggest going into the park in the late afternoon/evening and hiking the Pa’rus Trail along the river (from shuttle stop 3) while the sun sets. It’s paved and an easy walk, but beautiful during sunset.

Can I ask why? We leave next week for this trip and we all got hiking sandals (closed toed ones) specifically for these types of hikes on recommendations from others. Just wondering if I really need them.

Definitely rent the poles and boots. I'm usually the type to go the cheap route and "just get by" but it would have sucked without those rentals (and they're cheap anyway). Tons of super slippery rocks.
Narrows is cool, but go early. Gets way too crowded later in the day.

Angel's landing wasn't permit required when we went in 2020, but definitely do it if you can acquire one. Awesome scenery up top, though that trek up is not for the faint of heart...

Staying in Springdale was super easy and convenient.

We flew into Vegas and I let my wife convince me to drive around the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and make several stops along the way. I told her the 9hr estimate with no stops was too much, but boy did I not realize what we'd get into. Rock slides created a few detours which turned into Google taking me down a road that ended up with almost getting stuck in sand ~5miles from the nearest real road. One of the few times I had a real "oh shite, we're in trouble" thoughts. Damn near ripped everything out from under that Nissan Rogue rental hauling arse out of there over rocks and sand. We left Vegas at 6am and rolled into Springdale at 1AM.

We are flying into Vegas then heading to Bryce Canyon first. Then off to Zion, Page, Grand Canyon Village, Williams and finishing in Sedona. Excited for the trip, but also nervous as this is the first hiking type trip we have taken as a family.

Just curious, why are you going to Bryce first? And then Zion, and then Page? You are going to be doing a good bit of backtracking.

Yep, I know. I wanted to stay in a certain place in Zion and they didn't have availability on the dates if we went the other way.

Curious. How long are you taking to do all of this?

ahh gotcha. I love the drive from Zion to Bryce. Very cool change of landscape from lower elevation arid red rock desert to higher elevation green pine forest, so that'll be sweet to go there and back. It's so rural and rugged around there.

Aside from the Vegas to Bryce stretch, most of the others are 1-2 hours each. And we stay 2 nights most places so it will break it up.

There are a lot of airbnb/vrbo's between Zion and Bryce. I stayed in one last October just outside of Alton. We were right at about an hour or so to each park. Zion day 1. Bryce day 2. Mtn biking outside Virgin on the jem trails day 3. That was a bit longer of a drive, but we got to drive through Zion again and come through the east entrance through the tunnel for that stunning moment when you come out of the tunnel and make the switchback drive down into the canyon.

Rented bikes from an outfitter Springdale. It's amazing the advancements in high end bikes vs just 5-10 years ago. These things are just about indestructible now. You really get a false sense of security on them though and end up being borderline out of control because you can just haul arse over anything.

I rented an RV In Vegas and drove that to Zion. Stayed at watchman campground right inside the main gate.

Would be an interesting way to see the area.

I'm basically doing a recon mission to check out Zion for a couple of days next month. Hoping to get a feel for the area and do an extended trip in May/June of next year.

Been reading up on the permit issue for Angel's and will try to enter the day lotto for a pass. Otherwise we'll just hit up a few different trails and do the narrows one day.

Mid October will likely require the rental of dry gear for the narrows.....any suggestions for an outfitter for day rentals of gear?

Luckily did angels landing last year-pre permits. I stayed in at George and drove in (about a 30 min drive). I ate at the Buffalo trading company in Virgin between st George and Zion. Amazing food and an interesting place

Did the exact same thing last year. If this is the “restaurant” with the owner that does everything I couldn’t recommend more.
This was the last leg of my utah big 5 road trip( Grand Canyon, arches, canyon lands, Bryce, zion, capital reef) so went the opposite way from Zion back to vegas
