I'm not sure if this should be outdoor board or here, but I have learned to value y'all's opinion over the years here on Travel.
My oldest son is 10 and going into Middle school next month. I want to take him somewhere just me and him so we can have our first.. "talk" about some of the topics of conversation he will most likely face once he starts back at school. He has been more sheltered than I was at that age, and hasn't showed any signs of knowing anything about birds and bees other than both are needed.
I was thinking of getting a cabin to do some hiking or canoeing. Or a shallow stream for him and me to walk around in. Do y'all have any suggestions? I know previously people have mentioned the Bogue Chitto as having good cabins. It's kinda last minute. I was hoping to do it next weekend since something came up at the end of the month. I'm open to other suggestions as well. What do y'all think?

Louisiana State Parks have really nice cabins, some on the water for fishing.

Seminary Canoe Rental not far from Hattiesburg. 2 hours or so from NOLA.
Its been a few years since I went. Fun paddle and they had nice cabins for rent. We had a group of around 12. I think they have tent camping sites too

He's not getting details really just yet. Just a heads up about some of the topics and also about some of the social stuff going on and what we believe as Christians. It's not going to be a long conversation unless he has a lot of questions. However, it will be a trip for us to do some stuff outdoors and bond. We have never done a trip just the two of us. He has a younger brother who I normally let come along.

The idea of a trip together to just spend time together is great. Maybe a little awkward, but that will pass. However, if you truly think he is sheltered at 10, you are probably sadly mistaken. Unless he's been homeschooled, has hardly any friends, and you monitor his every minute on the internet, he knows a lot more than you think. He probably needs a lot more details and sooner than you think just to combat misinformation he's gotten from friends.

You're gonna ruin the trip. Tell him this shite some other time or at a minimum wait till you're on the way back

You’re fricking up.
Book a fishing trip in the marsh. Have fun.
Talk later.
