Far Northern Cali Thoughts?

I have a work project a few hours north of Sacramento, way into the wilderness. I've never been and I'm guessing this neck of the woods has more in common with rural Alabama than LA or SFO. The town is outside of Redding.
Anyway, have yall ever been? I'm considering taking a few extra days and driving to the coast, Lassen Volcanic National Park, or Feather River Canyon.
I won't really have the time or gear for fishing, hunting, long hikes, camping. But wouldn't mind a 2 miles walk or a cool lodge on a lake or mountain.
Thanks for any advice you have.

I have family up there. Arcata and Trinidad are peaceful coastal towns. Really the drive from Arcata to Crescent City is great. Plus, they’re very close to the Redwood national forest, which is beautiful and great hiking.
If you don’t want to go coastal, then Mount Shasta is what you want.

Hire a guide for a fishing trip. Solves the gear issue.

Our local PBS station (Fresno) produces a series called Outside: Beyond The Lens. The link below is to the episode that covers the area you’re in. I highly recommend watching this series in general because it’s very well done. But for anyone traveling to California this series should be a must watch. You can find the episodes on YouTube. The link below is the mobile site so helpfully it loads for you. In case it doesn’t just look up the Mt Lassen National Park episode. Have fun and enjoy our beautiful state. SF & LA get the headlines but there is so much more here.

Trinity ranges are awesome. No open business for long distances, pay attention to gas.
Redwoods NP is great been several times
A hidden gem is the high desert is Lava Beds National Park. The lava tube caves are awesome. The obsidian fields are like another planet.

So I did this exact route in reverse and it was just stunning. Lassen was amazing, as was the Feather River canyon, Burney Falls, etc...
The locals claimed it was a very touristy area, but it was really sleepy from what I could see. That's good, I wanted a quiet place, not Gatlinburg west.

You’re welcome. How much of the state are you planning on seeing?

If you fish, check out the pit river. Some amazing rainbow trout fishing. They were swarming literally off the pier at the dam we fished off of. I did not catch any because I am as close to fishing stupid as you can get (second cast hooked a tree and lost the lure).
Good fishing video: LINK
Also do not expect much in the way of food. Burney and Redding are very bland for food. Jack's in Redding is decent. Get a cheap grill at Walmart and use it a few times, or if you drive in, bring the cheapo blackstone.
