We are heading to Estes Park tomorrow for a wedding this weekend and will be staying at the venue from Thursday-Sunday.

So we have 2 days to play with. Stay those 2 in Estes Park or Fort Collins?

Easily Estes Park. Tour the Stanley Hotel. If it’s still open, drive Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain NP over the divide to Grand Lake (nice restaurants and breweries there) and back.

The most impressive drive for us was Trail Ridge Road where you go up over 13,000 feet. Impressive.

However, it seems to be closed as of yesterday due to wintry storm conditions. Colorado Gazette article

Our favorite day hike was to Mills lake. About six miles roundtrip. The payoff at the lake is spectacular. Not sure how the storms are affecting this hike, though.

Just landed, driving out to Estes Park right now. Weather should be good the next few days for hiking. Kinda bummed about trail ridge closing, hoping it opens back up once they plow it

That’s the Trail Ridge Road status #. It was updated today (10/12/2020) and will be revised when appropriate.

It was closed when we went in September because of the fires.

Gives me a reason to go back sooner rather than later.

If Trail Ridge Road is open it’s definitely worth the drive

We stayed at the Stanley Wednesday night and now it's a huge family gathering at the cabins. Caught 3 nice rainbow trout. This wedding on Saturday at the RMNP amphitheater will be a shite show but I'm having a good time.

Ate at Rock Inn. Good food and live acoustic music.

How is the smoke? Forest service closed all the national forest between Lyons and Estes due to fire danger.

No issues. You can see smoke off in the distance but no big deal. 36 to Lyons is open to my understanding.

The groom's family is originally from Louisiana so I think they're doing crayfish and gumbo for the rehearsal dinner.

I'm used to that stuff. My Dad worked for the Firest Service for 35 years and he used to take us west fir months at a time while he was fighting fires. My nephew is fighting a fire in Washington right now.

There's over 200 of us here just trying to have a good time.
