I haven't been in that area in a while, but East Harlem can be a little sketchy in areas. Are the savings really that much?

Saving quite a bit. Fine apartment, great feedback (195), lady and her daughter.

People here make it sound like everything is sketchy. If I can go down in the quarter at 4:30 in the morning with $6000 in camera equipment, I think I will do fine.

I don't think you should stay in a place with your 14 year old daughter in East Harlem. Harlem is slowing improving, but there's still a lot of bad areas there.

Nice subtle brag.

OK, man. I'm sure it's fine. Maybe it'll be a nice cultural experience for you and your daughter. I was just trying to help. If it were me, I would just priceline it or check out some of the suggestions that have been posted in the thread.

I just think it would be worth it to spend a little extra and be in the middle of the action, so to speak.

Don’t you have a history of making bad decisions regarding accommodations? It seems like you did the same thing in New Mexico or something and ended up staying in a shithole.

If this thread is any indication, I'm shocked that this happened. Absolutely shocked. I feel bad for his daughter, but maybe the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

We all have different priorities, and that's great, but if it was me, I'd pay the extra $300 or $400 to stay in an area that is in a more central location. At least he'll see some nice NYC housing projects.

I don’t remember that one. All I know is this is the fifth or sixth thread he’s started about a two day stay in NYC.

And at the end of this process, after all the good suggestions, he went with an AirBnB in freaking Harlem.

Ok, y'all talked me into it. I cancelled the AirBnB on 106th, and booked one on 300 block of W 49th St. 1.5 blocks from Time Square.

The thing was, my search for AirBnB when I first did it had nothing in this area, it was all east of Central Park, and someone here said AirBnB was illegal in Manhattan, so I didn't search very hard.

I live east of CP, what are you trying to say?!?

106 and Park from a logistics standpoint would require you to take the 6 train which isnt great. Idk what you booked in TS area, but you have several transportation options. You should be able to take the Airtrain>F which will drop you off close to your spot and save you a $75 cab ride.

Please give me more details. Are you saying there is a "airtrain" from JFK to manhattan?

I'm no New York guru, but I think the Long Island railroad goes from JFK to penn station.

No, it’s not that fancy. The “airtrain” station is outside the baggage area. It’s a monorail-esque train that brings you to a main train station. You can get on a few different subway lines as well as the Long Island Railroad as someone said. The LIRR would require it’s own ticket then a subway ticket to get you from Penn to 50th. You could take the F which would be a little slower but you would save the LIRR ticket price. Off peak is $7.50, so it’s $15 difference.

Antique will examine a myriad of ways to save even on the subway fare, including looking at walking to Manhattan and building a cardboard raft before finally deciding to take the subway.

We took the JFK Airtrain right into Greenwich Village...possibly 4th street station at Washington Park for a few dollars each. It was only 4 blocks from our apt rental on Christopher St

You can take the airtrain to connect to the A/C at Howard Beach or the E at Jamaica (or the LIRR at Jamaica). It's $5 for the air train and another $2.75 for the subway.
Either route works but I prefer Jamaica transferring to the F. Learn the subway. It is the fastest and cheapest way around NYC.
