I'm not planning on taking an special scenic route, but is there anything worth a short stop along the route?? I'm planning on stopping in Albuquerque Friday night and probably Tyler Saturday (I know there's nothing exciting in Texas).

LINK / there is a pretty good oil museum on campus of kilgore College. I think the east texas oil field was one of the most productive fields in the world.

If you dont make this drive often or dont plan on being around carlsbad I definitely think it is worth it to make a detour to check out the caverns.

Exit I 40 at Holbrook, AZ. Take Hwy 180 to the south entrance of Peterified Forest Nat Park, < 30 min.

Stop at the Rainbow Forest Visitor Center. Drive through the NP, south to north, to the main VC; about 40 min drive.

How much time that adds to your trip will depend how much time you spend at the VC, gift shop and any side trips off the main road.

Get back on I 40.

Reading the 72 oz steak challenge. They even have a excel spreadsheet of everyone who finished it and the time and quote after

Holy shite someone ate it in 9 minutes including all the sides
