Trying to decide between the two.....

I would only be going for my kids (will be 9 and 6) at the time of travel. None of us are Disney super fans, but they want to go because they hear about their friends going.

If we do the cruise, it would be the 4 day in feb 2020 out of New Orleans

If we do the park, it would be 4 nights and we would fly from New Orleans and stay somewhere with monorail.

We are not great travelers, meaning impatient. We can barely make it to Destin, FL, in one piece. Also I worry about long lines at either vaca. I know nothing when it comes to Disney and the necessary planning and can think of several other vacations spots I’d rather visit, but this is strictly for my kids. In fact, going to the Disney outlet store can throw me for a loop. I can take 15 minutes, and then I just want to get the hell out.

Which would be a better trip for my kids?

The cruise is great for the younger kids, they are a perfect age for the cruise. I would look at doing the 4 day out of Cape Canaveral and going to Castaway Cay, the island is worth the drive to Florida. Tons of activities for the kids, lots of interactions with characters.

Disney world. They have so much to do for that age kids. They will be able to ride all the rides.

Really? I didn’t think my oldest would be y’all enough for some of the major ones. She’s pretty petite

Most rides are 44” I think. The only one I remember being a little taller was rock n roller coaster. The Avatar ride alone is worth it going to Disney world. I’m not a rides person and I even enjoyed most of the rides there. My kids are your age and they couldn’t have had more fun when we went this year for our first time.

I had always said I was going to be one and done but we are going back Mardi Gras.

Yeah one of the experts will chime in shortly but my oldest at 5 can ride like 90% of stuff. Most of the biggest stuff is around 42 I think with very few rides that are 48 maybe? Disney is not universal made for teenagers and young adults, it’s geared for kids.

For you personally it sounds like the cruise is better. I’ve never been on the cruises and I understand they are awesome, but to me there’s nothing that’s gonna beat that first day walking into Magic Kingdom or any one of the 100 other things your kids will look forward to.

People hate on Disney, but it’s a blast for kids that age.

If you don't like lines and having to do any planning than the cruise will be better.

Impatient—excited and ready to get where we are going.

We went to New Orleans this past weekend and my kids asked at least twice “are we there yet?”

Ive don both numerous times and it honestly doesn't sounds like you would like either one of them. I think you're better off finding a trip that suits you guys rather than one than one that doesnt just because theyve heard someone else enjoying it.

If you're miserable, nobody is going to have fun and if the kdis arent very big into the theming Disney offers, cruise another line and save thousands.

Well that’s 99% of kids to be honest.

Disney World. At those ages they will enjoy the parks a whole hell of a lot more. It will help with your patience as well.

Everest in AK is 48 and that's the tallest height requirement. When we went my 3 year old way 38-40" and she could ride everything she wanted to ride including the 7DMT. and Splash Mountain.

There is so much for kids to do that doesn't involve the bigger coaster rides. My daughter got a bigger kick out of the princess meet and greets.

Do they have “meet and greets” on a Disney cruise?

Yes, they are all the time and multiple outfits for most of the characters, at most you will wait 15 minutes. It is so much better than the parks

They do have meet and greets on DCL but some of them require tickets (ie the princesses). The tickets are free but you need to schedule them ahead of time.

Last time we were on DCL the frozen princesses were the only ones we needed tickets for, all the others were out multiple times during the cruise.

I've been on one cruise and it was one of the most relaxing vacations I've been on. Other than planning your shore excursions it's nice not to have to drive anywhere or do all the heavy lifting yourself.

With that said, I would still choose Disney World. It can become a chore but book some fast passes and dining options and you can have a lot of fun without much stress. If you don't plan Disney World it can be a nightmare especially when it's crowded which is most of the time nowadays.

We took our kids to Disney world at those ages and it was perfect. We hit the parks when they opened went back to hotel for late lunch and rest during the busiest park time and then back to the parks late afternoon when many people were starting to leave park. As long as you don’t force yourself to fight the crowds all day, I think you will find it enjoyable.

We did cruise when they were 10 & 12 and it probably a good option but I wish we would have waited a couple of years. It was enjoyable but my 10 year old was sort of in limbo - too old fire kiddie stuff not quite old enough for teen stuff.

Another thing I forgot to mention is the last time I checked availability that sailing only had availability for a concierge room which would cost about $10k for a family of 4. The March sailing had availability other places but the Feb sailing was almost completely sold out
