Disney Aulani - Hawaii

Anyone have any experience at the Disney Aulani resort in Hawaii? Seems very nice, also fairly pricey. My wife is pressuring me about Disney for our oldest who is 7. We live in Vegas so Disneyland is pretty close, but personally I’d rather go to Hawaii than Disneyland. Obviously I know they are not the same experience and we will likely do Disneyland before long, but I would love any feedback about the resort. Thanks!

It’s very nice. Ko Olina isn’t particularly close to many of the popular spots to hit on Oahu (northshore, Pearl Harbor, Waikiki, etc) but it’s very nice.
I wouldn’t go and just stay at the resort because you can get a similar non Disney experience other places on the island but if you do it, just expect longer drives to see the popular things.
You could do both too; a few days at Disneyland and then fly to Hawaii from there and stay somewhere other than Aulani to experience both

Very nice resort. We went for the luau, which was fun, good food, and all you can drink.
It is far away (Hourish) from anything

It’s a resort on the western coast of Oahu. There are other resorts on either side. Being on far west side of Oahu it’s a good drive to go anywhere else on the island. Similar to the Wilderness Lodge in Orlando. There are annoying “cast members” with clipboards everywhere trying to get you to join Disney Vacation Club.

Thanks for the input. Seems like instead of centering an entire Hawaii trip around that resort it would make more sense to do a night or two there and then the bulk of the stay nearer to the action.

I took a tour that left from the Aulani and it seemed like an absolute mad house.

Away from the action but less roaches, bust still roaches. Damn I had no idea Hawaii was filled with roaches. One and done for me.

It's in Ko'olina by Kapolei. Theres a little Hawaiin BBQ shop by there called Broke Da Mouf. It's outstanding. There will be a line but it moves quick.
- It's next to the 4 Seasons so no riff raff
- There are 4 sheltered lagoons perfect for swimming
- It also expensive AF
Enjoy. It's absolutely fantastic.

Brok da mouf is legit. That garlic furikake chicken haunts my dreams. Ko olina is good place to spend a couple days relaxing but there is t much to do around the resort. I’d stay there my first 2 days then spend the rest of the time North Shore or Kailua.

Never been but are looking to go next spring. Maybe for 2 nights. Also looking to do an island hopping cruise so this would be before it sachet the cruise.
While there are some Disney characters running around and themed activities, I don’t think it’s like going to Disneyland. Seems like it’s closer to a Disney cruise but on land and without ports and you pay for food lol

I went last year and it was great! Spent a day away from resort and saw some sights and then flew to Maui for a few days. I will go back one day. Much better than Disneyworld and didn’t really feel Disney to me.
