Day 9 continued.

Snowbasin was awesome! The 4" of snow was the fluffiest, lightest snow on the whole trip. Was the third car in the parking lot, pretty cold (13*F) which probably explains the snow conditions. They have a few gondolas, some high speed chairs, and some slow chairs. Started with the gondola at the main base, here's the view from the top

Beautiful views of the area

View from the cirque bowl. Snow was feet deep in here, it was so nice

Lunch views from the base

Made my way to the John Paul (spelling?) Side of the mountain and that stuff was steep and deep. After 3 laps I needed to call it for my legs

Overall, great day! Snowbasin is north of SLC off I84 but had a wide variety of terrain from beginner to expert. Locals were nice and friendly as well as ski patrol (shout out to Scott for letting me know the Cirque bowl opened). The snow was the fluffiest of any of the resorts I've been to yet, can't wait to see how the rest of this week goes in SLC area

Extremely underrated. I love that the lifts go bottom to top allowing you to get so much vertical feet in one gondola ride. And they're adding a new gondola next year. Bathrooms are ridiculously nice too

We are, but it’s certainly no beginner’s mountain. My wife and daughter much prefer dollar mountain.

Got a lot of snow last night so the boy and I skied Sigi’s bowl, middle Christmas bowl, Kaitlyn’s bowl, and cold springs cut off in addition to the groomed runs that we usually stick to.
I wish I were advanced enough to ski double blacks. This is a picture of The Glades today where it empties into lower broadway.

Day 10- Ski Brighton/Solitude

Another great day on the slopes (day 8 in a row of skiing). Got up Big cottonwood canyon early this morning and saw the snow total said 1". By the time I parked (got the front row at Brighton), it was snowing pretty good and probably more like 2".

Started with the Crest lift, was on the third chair, and asked if I could follow a local guy around. He said sure and he showed me some good spots. Think this view is from the Snake lift

From the Best Western lift you can loop around to the back left (need to go through a gate). Ended up in a beautiful back bowl

Little did I know that you had to make hard left turns to make it back to the lift. I ended up at the road and having to hike 10 min back up .

After that, the guy I met suggested two hikes- One to the right of the Snake lift, the next to the right of the Crest lift. I joined because he convinced me they weren't bad hikes and the snow was great in both spots (Snake bowl and the one by Crest lift).

He called it a day after the hikes but I went on over to Solitude. They have a run between the two resorts called Solbright but it was closed due to Avalanche danger. Luckily there's a bus that you can take between the two resorts for free with a local or iKon season pass.

Solitude had some steep stuff, but a lot of it was closed for avy danger. I did a few runs over here

Took the bus back to Brighton and got my skis waxed/edged while I ate lunch. Called it a day around 2pm and here's the view on the way out. Look at how much snow there is.

Overall, I actually had a great day at Brighton. I had heard so so things about the place but it was a great mountain for the day. Solitude could be epic if they had all their terrain open, but they only have paid parking whereas Brighton had iKon pass reservations.

Currently wide awake from the 1 yr old at the house I'm staying at not wanting to go to bed (put down at 7, woke up at 830pm and has been crying since until 1030pm). I'm not ready for kids, don't know how you parents do it . Luckily little cottonwood canyon is closed for avy blasting until 830am tomorrow so even if I get to bed by midnight I'll be good to make it to Alta/snowbird when the road opens.

Always park at brighton and ride over to solitude. They charge like $35 for parking if you're by yourself. Solitude has some very steep trails that the speed skiers like to take advantage of on icy days. But they also have some excellent gates when they're open. Solitudes only problem is they don't have any bottom to top lifts. Glad you enjoyed it. Next time you're around check out Brighton's night ski.

Day 11- Ski Alta/Snowbird

Well after a rough night with the 1 yr old, got some coffee and a breakfast burrito on my way to Little Cottonwood Canyon. Alta and Snowbird got 7" overnight . The road was closed for avy blasting from 10pm-8:30am but it ended up opening around 8am. Waited in a bit of traffic but made my way up to Snowbird and parked in the perfect spot to get on the 2 person lift. Made my way to the Snowbird Center for the tram and waited ~25 minutes.

Here's the views from up top

The backside was great as well

Made my way to the Baldy lift and did a few runs because Mineral Basin was crowded already.

At the very top of the Baldy lift you can ski over to Alta (sorry no boarders). The ikon pass will scan here

View of Alta

Ended up lapping the Supreme lift for quite a few runs as it was steep, deep, and the trees were great

Made my way to the Sugarloaf lift and did a few runs here. Most of the canyons/bowls were in good shape

At around 2pm, went back to Snowbird and did a steep chute up top.

Did one run off Peruvian lift and then called it a day. Overall, excellent day with not many lift lines, great powder, and nice people on the lifts. Would recommend these mountains to intermediate to experts. Had really good parking at Snowbird with no reservations or $$ required.

More snow in the forecast tonight so made my way across to Park City. Will ski Deer Valley in the morning for a few groomers then make my way over to Rifle CO before skiing Aspen Saturday and Sunday. Very much enjoyed my Utah portion of the trip, great snow!

Eta: May audible and skip deer valley to drive over to CO as soon as I wake up. Weather looks bad and don't want to get stuck here. Thanks to Duke for his weather help

You should just become a ski bum. Give lessons in the winter and work for a raft outfit in the summer.

If I don't find something, it's honestly come up to ski bum.

Day 12- Drive Park City UT to Silt CO

Woke up and saw the snow forecast so decided to bail on Deer Valley. Glad I did because the winds were nasty in Park City, probably lots of wind holds on the lifts. Here was the drive towards Heber City. As you can see, it started out real fun on this 5.5 hr drive

Once into Heber, it cleared up a bit so got some nice views on the way to Provo

Completely forgot BYU was in Provo, ended up near their campus and stadium. This would be a cool place to attend a game

Took highway 6 and glad I crossed over the pass when I did. Nice views

Once you get over the pass, it turns into high desert

Eventually the high desert gets boring and you hit I-15. The speed limit on 15 is 80 so you can book it. Stopped in Grand Junction for some food, there's cool rocks in the area

Made it to Silt and have been chilling out wrapping up WA shite. Ready for Aspen tomorrow and Sunday!

Hit New York pizza for cheap good pizza and a local crowd of working people, which is impossible to find in Aspen. Woody Creek Tavern is great too.

Will do, I love a good ny slice

Looking like Aspen got 10-12" overnight, should be an excellent next two days

If anyone wants to look at the snow cam, here's the Aspen mountain one LINK

Loving the updates! Sorry about the job situation but nice you're making this an epic adventure.

Cool idea to try to ski in every State. Too bad it's warm here, or you could have swung by Mentone and skied in Alabama!

Day 13- Drive Silt to Aspen, ski Aspen Mountain

Woke up at 5am and decided to just start driving to Aspen given their totals of 11" at Aspen Mountain and 14" at Aspen Highlands. Since Highlands is mostly double blacks, I opted for Aspen Mountain as I figured they would do avalanche blasting most of the day (and they did). The drive was good until Basalt then it turned into this

Parked at Brush Creek courtesy of fargobison and they had free buses that ran every 10-15 min into town. Ended up at the gondola around 745am and was fifth in line. By the time the lifts opened at 9am, the line was down the stairs and around the street.

Views of the first few untouched powder runs. Was waist deep!

Since the gondola line was long, ended up off the Ajax lift for a bunch of laps. Then made my way to FIS and hit a few of the runs there

Afterwards wanted to explore Gents ridge. Ended up getting stuck in a valley and having to hike up to get to the lift. The lift is also super slow

Think this was Bell ridge, ajax would be on the bottom right and FIS off in the distance

Ate lunch at Bonnie's (highly recommend) then went back to ajax for a few runs and gents run to Jackpot to end the day. Very steep over here

Ended my day and took a bus back to the park and ride. Made my way to Basalt for the night and am relaxing before trying for Highlands tomorrow. Will drive to Tampa for Steamboat Monday once I'm done the day!

Day 14- Ski Snowmass, drive to Yampa

Well woke up to a report of 7" at Snowmass and since Highlands didn't open the steep stuff yesterday, I opted for what I thought would be a groomer day. I was wrong. Parked at Brush Creek again and got a direct bus to Snowmass arriving around 830am. Didn't realize the Village Express lift opened at 830am so got on and made my way up. Couldn't believe my eyes that there was no one in line. Maybe it was daylight savings?

View from Village Express

Groomers were perfect early. This is off of Big Burn or Sheer Bliss, again no lines.

Wanted to make my way over to High Alpine so took KT Gully

Got to the top of High Alpine and the guy on the lift suggested doing the Headwall hike if it was open. It must've just opened as it showed closed on the board but ski patrol had changed the sign to open on the run itself. This area was closed yesterday so the snow was great.

Got this cool picture with weird lighting with the sun poking through the trees

I ended up doing that Headwall hike four times besides a few other laps on High Alpine

Left around 130pm and many many runs. Overall, forgot how long the runs were at Snowmass. It was excellent conditions especially before any lift lines showed up. Great village environment as well, could see it being well for a family that needs lessons or wants greens/blues.

Ended up driving to Yampa and got some cool views.

This town is pretty methy though, quite the contrast from Aspen. Steamboat tomorrow!

Day 15- Ski Steamboat

Made my way to Steamboat after seeing the 3" report. Got a close parking spot to the gondola

Took the gondola up then went over to storm peak lift

Wanted to go off the back but it wasn't open yet so made my way to Sunshine Express.

The back opened by this point so made my way down a run called biscuit.

The back had the softest snow and was really nice. Did a few runs here then went to the Christmas tree bowl

Got some nice views by the end of the run towards bar UE

Did some tree runs under Storm Peak

Sun started to come out

Solid day. Then needed to make my way to the Hayden airport and pick up my friend. We walked around downtown steamboat then noticed the random ski hill in town. It's called Howelson Hill and it's the oldest ski resort in the US

Made our way to Craig for the evening and here now. Steamboat pt 2 tomorrow, should be a spring skiing day

Day 16- Ski Steamboat, drive to Eagle CO

No fresh snow overnight for the first time this trip, crazy to think about. Got to the Upper Knoll lot around 820am and got one of the last close free parking spots. Turned around when getting ready and saw this

Cool hot air balloon! Not sure why it was there but nice start to the morning. Made our way to the gondola and got right on in the singles line. Went over to Sundown/Sunshine lifts and got a few groomer runs in before the crowds hit then went to the back of the mountain.

Hit up Christmas tree bowl again and it was pretty good. Noticed a lot of the mountain was icy from the sun the day before. This was especially the case over off the Pony lift

It was terrible. After one ice run, made our way to the main village area for a lunch break. Sun finally came out around noon

Went over to the Thunder lift area after lunch since it was baking in the sun. The snow was nice and soft and the groomers were good at this point.

Friend was getting tired so we got to the base and he got one boot off his board but couldn't get the other one off. He has the click in bindings so he put his pant leg in the boot binding by accident and couldn't get it out. I tried to help, we asked the 'Ask us anything' people and they got a Phillips screwdriver. Still didn't do anything. My friend hit the point of being able to get his feet out of the boots with the boot still attached so that's exactly what he did. He ended up walking around the main area in bare socks, here's the pic

We had to find a board shop to have them loosen the bindings while my friend pulled up on the pants leg. They got it off after about 10 minutes while I waited outside. Very entertaining day for me.

Overall, Steamboat is a great beginner to intermediate mountain. Nothing terribly difficult and I did run into some bad lift operations. Felt like every lift had stopped today while I was on it so guessing it was all spring breakers on their once a year trip. Advice- If you're not comfortable with the high speed lifts, do the beginner ones until you're at a good state before moving on. No need to be a hero. The town itself is great, highly recommend for a family environment.

Day 17- Ski Vail, drive to Silverthorne

The internet is so bad here that I'll post the review and what pictures I can. Left Eagle around 715am and made our way to Vail. Tried parking for free at the Pavilion but they had an event so ended up at Cascade parking garage. We were shocked no one was in there, made our way to the cascade lift and no one was there

Made our way up the pride lift to the top

Groomers were good over here early morning. Once we did a few we made our way to Game Creek and hung out for a while. Found out the wide open areas were sheets of ice while the trees were softer

Since the back still wasn't open, we made our way over to Mountaintop. Went up top over there and the backside was open, but again a sheet of ice

Made our way over to Orient and it was terrible. Went over to blue sky and at least the groomers were good

Stopped for lunch up top there then made our way back via Teacup and three other lifts on the front side. Stopped for a sticker for my friend in Lionshead then took Eagle Bahn to the top.

Visibility got bad up top on our way to download on the Cascade lift

Don't think I've ever downloaded on a lift so first time for me. Kinda worse going down than up. Overall, no lines today, but the snow wasn't great except down near the bases or in the trees. Wasn't thrilled about paying $160 on a buddy pass for today, but it was a decent stop along the way.

Next up- Copper Mtn with Duke
