We took a lot more pictures, but I haven't had a chance to upload them yet. Hoping to go back after a good snow. Probably the prettiest scenery I've ever seen.

it is spellbinding
did you hike to the top of wizard island? The 360 view from there is the best in the park

We had two dogs with us and a lot of the trails/roads were already closed for the Winter. We're wanting to go back after a good snow and I'd definitely like to go when all of the trails are open(and not take the dogs).

My brother and I just drove down for the day. I'd definitely like to go back for a weekend trip, though.

It was at the top of the list of places that I wanted to see when I moved out here a couple of years ago and it was great to finally see it.

Jealous! Unfortunately there were wildfires up North of there when we visited, so the visibility was horrible. We’ll be back!

I had the privilege of spending a night in the lodge a few years back. Hanging out on that back patio in near zero light pollution was great.

That feeling of climbing a bit and the first reveal of the water over that volcano's edge is pretty damn surreal.

The hike down to the water and back up was brutal for some reason. It probably had to do with carrying 35lbs of boy each way.

I’ve been on a lot of hikes. That 1 mile hike from the water back up to the crater edge damn near killed me. Brutal is right

For those visiting crater lake there are two must do’s. You must stay in the lodge (book early and plan around it) and you must take the boat ride to wizard island and hike up to the top

It’s definitely out in the middle of nowhere. It’s not a place you conveniently drop by between stops. You have to make a little room for it on your itinerary.

I went in early June in like 2011 on my motorcycle when there was a10-15 ft snow bank along the road. It was incredible there, would love to go back when it is warm. The visitors center had a snow tunnel to get into it.

That’s the visitor’s center roof

This thread has me hooked. What is the name of that hike to the water? Is it something one should train for? Does it have switchbacks... technical maneuvers, etc.?

It's called the Cleetwood Cove Trail. I believe it is the only path down to the water. It isn't terribly long...2.1 miles round trip. It's a gravel trail but the entire thing is 11 degrees. It's steep enough to be a fight going down and a good climb all the way up. In our case we also had young boys who required being carried most of the way.

Imagine the divers carrying tanks and other gear down and back. Not sure if they’re still allowed to do it but they used to.

When we hiked it, there was a crew of fire fighters training. They were in full fire gear hiking up and down with chainsaws. I felt extra out of shape.

Could be hotshots/smokejumpers , they mostly reside/train in Central Oregon so don’t feel too bad

Crater Lake is awesome. That’s sweet you live in Bend. That’s an amazing area. We went up to Oregon last year, that’s one of the most beautiful states in the country for sure!

I really love Bend. About the only thing that I miss after moving here is the food in the South. Even the Mexican and Asian places in the South are much better than what you get out here.

Yep, I guess that’s the drawback of most relatively secluded mountain towns, haha. That’s one thing I like about Denver, we trade in more crowds for some decent food when we’re not hiking. There’s a ton of amazing asian food here

Incredible beauty of photography. For a long time I and my wife want to visit this lake. I can imagine how breathtaking it is while watching the lake itself from the mountain. Thank you for these landscapes.
