Looking to make a trip out that way Saturday likely.... looking into kayaking possibly, catching a bite to eat, check in somewhere and clean up then out for a good meal....

Hit me with all the info guys!

We’ve been to the Chimes before and love the atmosphere, was thinking could be the lunch spot... but also ok with trying something new if it’s worth it.

Always wanted to do the breweries up there.... but not sure how enjoyable that could be with the current Covid situation...

Any info is greatly appreciated! Going for wife’s birthday, and another couple looks to be tagging along.

TIA!

Best place to stay in Covington is the Southern Hotel

Great bar happy hour ($5 old fashions I believe)

Oxlot 9 inside the hotel is a phenomenal restaurant as well

Abita Roasting Company would be a great place for brunch Sunday morning

That’s what we were looking into. Driving from about 90 min away...so looking at the 9:30-12:30 slot possibly.

What times did y’all go? Never been down that river/bayou... so not sure how far to go down or how much time to allot.

Abita Brew Pub is a delightful spot to stop and spend a few hours. Food is excellent, IMO.

Unfortunately the whole Southern Hotel is booked out this weekend for a wedding.

May just do a day trip.

Yak + eat + relax.

Still trying to get the plans together.

We did a day trip that way a few weeks back and Mandeville has some spots to add to your stay.

There are a few B&B's in old town Covington that I heard were nice. One was Blue Willow. I can't remember the other. They are both in place where you can walk around all over and near Aquapastoes(cool little store than I know I spelled wrong).

The Tammany Trace trail runs right near that area.

Probably some cool places to stay in old Mandeville as well. Old Rail Brewing and Barley Oak or nice enough beer spots. Some cool little restaurants around there as well.

Hambone is that way and has a great brunch. Great!

There are a few B&Bs within those few blocks as well.

Abita Cafe is the best spot to eat in Abita Springs.

They were renting Kayaks behind chimes, if not...theres a paddle board store in Abita on 59 that can probably direct you where to go.... or was, i dunno anymore.

Abita Brewery is filling growlers and pints to go, but no tours. Not sure about the rest.

Oxlot is good, Gallagher's Grill and Lola are 2 to try (Partial to Gallagher's)

Sweet!!

Still up in the air if we are sleeping or not...don’t think we are think day trip now.

Brunch
Kayak
Dinner/drinks at one of the more causal spots.

Go back up there when the brews allow tours...

Hambone looks pretty solid on their insta page and their menu for brunch.

put in at the chimes and paddle upstream about an hour to hour and a half. You’ll clear most of the crowds and have your pick of beaches to chill out on.

hang out, catch a buzz and then take the easy downstream paddle back. Take out then head to the patio at chimes to enhance your buzz and get lunch

dinner later at Oxlot and you’ll have done the best of Covington. Mattina Bella for breakfast the next day.

If it's you and the wife, Del Porto is a pretty good dinner spot

Buster's Place in downtown Covington makes the best oyster po'boy I've had anywhere.

The Tammany Trace is always a fun place for a bike ride. It will take you straight to Fountainbleu State Park where you can ride your bikes to the shore, which is pretty scenic.

Mandeville Lakefront is always beautiful.

I could be mistaken, but I think most of the breweries in covington have closed over the last few years, but Abita, Chafuncta, and Old Rail (to-go curbside only) should still be open. This is a shame because those breweries used to be located right by the Tammany Trace Trailhead at the Covington rail station.

I don't know any good places for kayaking, so I can't help you there.

Also kayak in bayou lacombe. I think it’s called bayou adventures. Then get a B&B in old mandeville and grab dinner at the lake house on the lakefront. Another option for ya.
