We are going to Denver this saturday for 1 week. We are trying to finalize our plans. We are heading to the mountains to enjoy nature with our 2 yr old daughter. We cannot decide if we want to:
1) Spend the whole week in a ski town breckenridge etc and then travel around by car each day.
2)Split the trip into 2 locations and stay in Estes Park or Grand Lake to visit Rocky Mountain National Park. Other city? Then move to a ski town for a few days. What recommendations on ski towns to stay for a few days?
I was thinking we could catch a concert at red rocks in the middle possibly as well.
All recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Estes Park is my favorite town to visit during the summer. It's like a picture perfect postcard

....also, Aspen has a ton of shite going on all summer long. Festivals, concerts, kids activities, hiking, biking.
Not super close to Denver but you can easily spend a week there and still have things you didn't have time for.
Check out maroon bells....here is a pic. and yes, it looks just like this.

I'll second e.p. being a pretty legit place. Personally we go to granby, west of winter park and south of grand lake. We've been visiting that area since the early, early 90's. It's familiar, i have a friend from florida out there and locals we've been meeting for a quarter century. Certainly don't take me as endorsing it, but like most of the mountains nearby, it is a very beautiful area. It snowed on us last summer, maybe august 28-30 lol. It's maybe 2 hours from Grand lake to breckenridge, 30-45 to wp. Never driven there from estes park.
None of your travel paths indicate this as being a middle of the trip ordeal... likely the end if you start in estes. Even if you don't see a concert, checking out red rocks is a great idea.

Just went to EP, Breck and Denver in June. We went to Vail before leaving Breck (yes, went backwards) and stopped at Red Rocks. We had a wonderful time in EP and Breck. We also hit up Colorado Springs for the Garden of the Gods. All told, it was a good bit of driving. Another possibility is Boulder...
I would have loved a little more time to explore RMNP. The weather was gorgeous. With a 2 yo, you may want to just have two longer stays instead of too much driving?

We did a similar trip last summer.
My wife had a conference in Denver so we spent two nights there, then drove up through Boulder to Estes Park. Stayed at Estes Park Resort on Lake Estes, they have a marina you can rent kayaks and pontoon boats.
Drove through Rocky Mtn National Park and when you come out on other side you are close to the ski resorts. We stayed a couple of nights at Vail. They have a summer adventure ridge on top of mountain with zip line, jeep tours, rope course, alpine slide and summer tubing.
That main interstate takes you back into Denver.
Mt Evans is near and you can drive up to the peak and Golden is not far, Coors Brewery tour.
Aspen is a little further but we didn't make it that far but will probably venture that way next time.

We are partial to Breckenridge. Fun town, good food, plenty to do.

Breckenridge is a good place to stay that gets you to most places pretty easy.
Also, cheaper than Vail and you could still drive to Vail and do stuff there as well.
More restaurants (casual type places) to eat as opposed to Vail.

Yep. Breck is a real town...Vail, fun, different, not the same. We just prefer Breck and it's a quick trip out of Denver.
