Taking the kids on a 10 day road trip and we will be passing through both Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Planning to catch a ballgame in each city and wanted to see if the areas around each ballpark are decent places to stay. Mainly concerned with safety walking back after a 7pm game. Currently booked at Hyatt Place Northshore in Pittsburgh but have nothing yet in Cleveland.

Also, what’s the “go-to restaurant” in each city that you must visit? I’m not meaning the best or finest restaurant, but one that the city is known for or has the best local foods. Primanti Bros in Pittsburgh?

The baseball stadium in Cleveland is only a mile from the lake and there should be plenty of hotels down there that will be safe. We stayed at the Hilton by the Rock n Roll museum and I found Cleveland to be once of the more walkable downtown's I have been too.

Pittsburgh is incredibly safe for a major city. I've done the walk to the T station (across the street from the Hyatt Place) and never had any problems at all. Downtown is fine too. You won't find the bad areas unless you really go out of your way.

Primanti Bros is the most "iconic" really, but I would also go down to S&D Polish Deli (just down the street) for pierogies. Store itself is less of an icon, but the pierogies are good (for pierogies at least... generally overrated food imo).

DeLuca's diner is the famous breakfast place, but Cafe Raymond has a better breakfast imo

Primanti bros is way overrated. I've had it 2-3 times and never felt as if it was remotely interesting or good. The "burger" part really sucks.

In Cleveland, Lucky's Cafe is maybe 10-15 from the ballpark and really good.

In Pitt I enjoyed Ephesus pizza but I don't know if it's a hallmark Pitt experience.

Agree with Little Italy Cleveland. Parking is a challenge in that area so be prepared. West Side Market is worth a visit.

Get the vodka sauce pasta. Been here prob 6 times for company parties, very solid spot, second this recommendation. It is also on Mt Washington/Allentown so will be able to get some nice views of the city if you desire.

ETA: Primanti Bros sucks arse. If you are in Market Square id much rather go to City Works and get some good drinks and bites than deal with PBs

We found some really good pizza places in Pittsburgh. Fiori's was my favorite, but it's 3-4 miles outside downtown. Iron Born Pizza is good and they have a location downtown. The Yard is a decent place and a good spot to bring kids and is downtown. They have gourmet grilled cheeses and pub style food. Monterey Bay Fish Grotto is really good and has amazing views of the city. It's across the Ohio River from the football Stadium. It's a little higher end and not downtown. I also agree with all the Primanti Bros takes above.

Have you ever tried Betos? Its basically cooked with crust and red sauce, then toppings added after, cold. People compare it to an adult style lunchable, some hate it while others love it. Have not tried it before but wondering if anyone here has and has an opinion on it?

Sounds like Primanti Bros is getting the axe. Thanks for all of the recommendations and warning me off of PB.
