SW completely tool a shite on tens of thousands of people’s xmas this year.

I tried to avoid it by coming to Louisiana on the 21st then leaving mid day (230) on the 23 back to PHX.

They “said” they were looking for a captain to fly the plane. For two hours they looked. Hell there was even a pilot that showed up to the gate willing to go but not allowed for some reason.

Finally cx the flight at 5pm. Tell us to go back to ticketing since there will be more agents there. Of course the app won’t work to rebook. Calling is just a message the call can’t be completed.

Get to ticketing and the line is massive of course. There for about ten mins and get this- a lady comes to desk and says:
“If you are here because your flight got cx or are trying to rebook we can’t help you. The phone operators also cannot help you right now. The system is down. If you are here to check in and check bags we can help you.”

frick southwest. They constantly blame weather even though there is no weather issue or labor when you point out no weather problems.

You have zero problem taking money for a product/service so you need to be responsible for providing it. Labor shortages? You know every single fricking year the holidays are gonna be insane. Trying to make baggage and ground crew work outside in 0° and less weather without giving them breaks or others to rotate is SW fault.

Anyway, I wait in line anyway and by time I get to agent they are able to get me rebooked. Earliest flight is 6pm the 26th.

I was lucky I had family to get me and stay with. But seeing all these young kids and parents screwed amd scrambling for hotels cars and extra expenses just really rubs me the wrong way.

These people in the C suites of major corporations need to dragged out of their ivory towers and beaten. They hide behind the excuse of covid and thin margins and “weather” and blame labor. It’s all bullshite and they do it with impunity.

Pretty much on all accounts. I don't really think its going to get better with the lack of qualified pilots becoming harder to find. They really could solve alot of issues by not overbooking so much and also cancelling sooner. Nothing that pisses me off more than showing up, parking, going through security and then having the flight cancelled 30 minutes before time. That happened to me on some random slow weekday, no weather. I got in my truck and drove the 12 hours to ATX. I think I'm just going to drive from now on. 12 hours travelling with a chance to get cancelled or a nice quite car by myself....I'll take the car.

The issue is that they sell something and take your money then don’t deliver.

If you can’t hire pilots then don’t offer flights. If you can’t hire grounds crew don’t offer flights. If prices need to be higher then charge it. But don’t charge me a lower price and think that my time is not part of the price you charge.

Again, I think of the ruined Christmas for the younger kids stuck in airports.

Driving is almost better now but not really feasible cross country.

You essentially have to block out a full day to travel by air nowadays. And even then it’s rolling the dice.

This is what corporations running the world looks like. Terrible for consumers.

My most memorable Christmas travel was to St Petersburg, Russia. A white Christmas indeed. Russians celebrate Christmas January 7th using the Julian calendar so all the businesses were open for our pleasure. The city was adorned in white lights and decoration.

Used Tours by Locals guide service for daily personalized tours. Accommodations at the Belmont Grande were very reasonable if you stay out of the Caviar Bar and Restaurant, which we did not.

We were there in 2018. All tours were of pre-revolution facilities and history - their most popular, beautiful and interesting sites are over 100 years old dating prior to Bolshevik and communist overthrow. And those attractions are rich in grandeur. Sad really, such tragic history. Our guide was an attractive female in her mid forties. She was high school and college age during the fall of the USSR. Her parents were university professors, hence in favor with the ruling class. The Hermitage and Peterhof were most memorable.

Update on my day- got to West Palm at 1045am and saw that the inbound from Atlanta still hadn't left yet (was supposed to leave at 1012am). Asked the ticket counter agent to add me to the 11am that was already boarding, he said it was full. Thanked him, got my boarding passes, and immediately went through security. Got to the gate for the 11am flight and asked to get on. The agent said it was full so I asked if he can put me on the standby list in case someone didn't show up. Finally got on the standby liat and then 5 minutes later called my name to get on

Just got to Atlanta and see the 115pm flight was delayed to 3pm. Would've missed the connection to Seattle today and the next rebook would've been Thursday, but now I'm here and have 3 hrs until the next flight.

It pays to be nice and always ask for standby as there are likely no shows/missed connections on flights. Will update later once I see if the flight to Seattle is oversold

I’m a DL crew member. I’ve been working since 12/22. It’s been insane. That is all. The crews are getting thrown around just as much as the passengers. It’s terrible. That’s all.

If you're in ATL between now and 4pm, I'm over here in C observing all of the southwest cancellations. However bad dl is southwest is worse. People behind me trying to figure out where their luggage is

ETA: Uh oh, flight is delayed 1 hr 15 min and I'm not sure why. It has to be crew or pilot related as the inbound plane is landing in an hour on time. Next rebooking option is Wednesday through Spokane or Tampa...

And of course SW cancelled my rebooked flight tonight. So I had no choice except to get bent over by the airlines and buy a one way flight.

$1200 one way via delta. Don’t even get the luxury of a reach around. (Nonstop flight). Instead I get a chance to get stuck in Salt Lake City.

We will see.

Southwest is not in good shape this week, rebooking lines are only getting worse here in ATL and that's in the terminal. Geeze, that's expensive for delta. Hope they don't cancel on you either

It’s a complete and utter failure of their business model. I hope they go bankrupt.

I can’t get through to the phone line agents so had to choose another airline. I will do my very best to never give them a single bit of money again.

Sorry let's keep the convo in this chat. Yes they cancelled 2700 flights today, I'd avoid rebooking for tomorrow

Where are you trying to get to from SAT?

66% of their flights today were cancelled with another 18% delayed. So they got 16% of their flights out ontime today... 16%...

Again-they have no problem taking your money.

Weather is one thing. But this situation isn’t happening to the other carriers to this degree. Likely a labor dispute/CBA power move to orchestrate this at the most painful time of year.

As far as I am concerned they are all complicit and trying to use “weather” as a copout.

If the model of business depends on this razor thin a margin and you can’t adequately plan for extremely busy times AND YOU TAKE PEOPLE’S MONEY far in advance then you deserve to crumble.

See about trying to get to Houston or Dallas and driving from there. Would at least save half a days worth. Also just tried to check the southwest site to browse for flights for you and got this error message

This function is in maintenance mode. Please try again later
Error 503318996

(1a5e6602-3187-4022-9a75-a10521e2224d:VS_vOHzFQVKq-BvkHFbQug:mweb)

They're doing maintenance in the middle of this shitshow?

I'm lucky my flight here in Atlanta has only been delayed 1 hr 40 min so far and counting waiting on pilots. It seems like Southwest over scheduled and they're having to pay for it today. I'll be hesitant to book southwest anytime soon given these events

Oh and we have a water main break here in ATL

I flew from ATL to Knoxville on a delayed flight while we waited for our pilot. We had 3 pilots in seats on the flight along with some crew that were clearly getting dispersed first thing Christmas morning.

Sorry just saw this. I’m on a layover in Tennessee right now. Thankful to not be flying today. Back at it tomorrow. DL has certainly had its issues the last few days, but Southwest is one of the biggest failures I have ever seen from an Airline. Worse than the one Spirit had earlier this year. Absolutely insanity.
