I don’t really want to pay a lot for this trip for lodging. Anybody have any good secret ideas that won’t land us at a Motel 6?

When are you going, for how long, and what's your budget?

If you are going in the summer, you will pay a lot.
Look at Destin West Resort or the Ramada in Fort Walton.
There is a pretty new Marriott property in Navarre that might be affordable.

Look towards the end of the summer (end of August/Labor Day weekend) for the best rates. Just make sure you get insurance on your rental in case you have to cancel due to hurricane, which is a 50/50 shot that time of year generally

Ramada in Fort Walton.
Very reasonable rates here. This was my favorite place to go as a kid. They have an incredible waterfall bar in the pool, would love to go back someday to bring back the nostalgia. The rooms looks pretty outdated though, but suites are fairly reasonable.
Edit: if you have kids you can get a room that has a patio door that opens up to the swimming pool. God that place was awesome, swim up to the hotel room and jump from the hotel room into the pool, what a life.

Just two of us.
July 13th - July 16th.
We’re meeting a couple there so it’s only to sleep.

If you planned ahead you could stay in one of the state park areas that have cabins. They aren’t that bad for what you pay and basically have an entire open beach

A little off topic, but Little Feet is open for those days. I know it’s not cheap, but I searched those exact days earlier this week.

$1600
Tried to talk my wife into staying those days on Monday. Slick AF location.

Go with other couples/families, find a house.
or don't stay near the beach.

The LaQuinta in Fort Walton Beach was pretty decent a few years ago when we stayed there for a night.

Look for a house boat or trailer on Airbnb
