Just heard about this. For those who have traveled there recently, what’s the safest and easiest way to handle it? Before you go or when you leave? Can you pay at resorts before you leave? And if so, how do you prove you paid and not get a runaround at the airport? Just planing ahead for an upcoming trip. TIA

You don't need to pay it. There is no one collecting it.
Pay it online if you want to.
I've never been asked.

From what I understand they’ve really just started enforcing it and you’re more likely to have issues the next time you attempt to visit (probably a scare tactic). From what I recall the website says you can pay before or while you’re there. You’re sent a QR code to show if asked.

Bought it online for a trip this past March on the official Mexican website.
Printed it out on a sheet of paper and brought it on my carry-on. Was never asked for it at any point in the trip, but for $15 it was worth the peace of mind.

I didn't pay that nonsense. I used the e-Gates at customs too and never spoke to a single person going in our out of the country. They didn't even want my immigration QR code thing.

Must have drank the water at some point when I was there over the weekend. Because I still feel like I'm being taxed.

I don't think I know anyone who pays that crap. Customs in Cancun is a breeze
