Good morning,
I have been looking at a beautiful cottage rental in Maine in the Moosehead lake region for a trip planned in 7/18. I contacted the owners and was informed they do not supply sheets or towels for the rental! They claim it is normal for rentals in that area. There is not a washer and dryer in the cottage so we would have to bring enough towels for a week. Has anyone ever heard of this practice?

Maybe why they don't provide sheets and towels...too much of a hassle for them to clean in between tenants.

Haven't heard of no sheets before, but that moosehead lake area is awesome. Plenty of hiking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, can see all of the stars at night since there's no background light, and the people are very friendly.

so bring one pair of sheets and 2 or 3 towels
doesn't sound like a big deal to me
at least you'll know whose body funk is on the sheets

Its the old school way of doing it. It is what it is. I wouldn't complain, its their business model I don't see the huge deal with it? Its also a way of keeping a bunch of pain in the arse big city out of staters from visiting as they all want all the creature comforts.

Most likely though, just a bad business model. But yeah, I mean i need 1 towel a week and some sheets. Not a huge deal to me personally.

Just seems odd to me and I have never encountered this. Heck I have been on a 10 day lodge to lodge horseback trip to cabins only accessible on horseback and they provided sheets and towels. If we were driving it would not be a big deal but flying means an extra suitcase and baggage fees.

Or hit up the closest Target/Walmart and buy a cheap set of sheets and a couple of cheap towels.

I've only rented cabins at campgrounds a few times, but no towels or sheets were ever provided.

Closest walmart is in bangor which is 2 to 2 1/2 hours away...Maybe she can buy a set off amazon and have them shipped directly to the cabin or the landlord? I also do remember there being a grocery store/convenience store type place with clothes and other items, think it was called indian hill trading post.

Lovelsu where are you flying into? Bangor or Augusta?

Hoping to fly into Bangor but flights are limited. I still have miles with United but the flights using miles are 4 layovers and about a 13 hour day. Might have to fly out of MSY for a decent flight. Bangor is about an hour from the cottage and Portland about 2.5 hours. My college roommate and I are going on a f$#@ cancer (both in remission) trip and there are a queen and a double bed so it is 2 sets of sheets we have to buy or bring. I am not being a chronic complainer as some posters implied, I just have never heard of this and was a little taken aback.

Gotcha....so better just to pay the extra baggage fee.

Congrats on both being in remission btw

Popular in camping oriented areas.

Sometimes they don't even have a mattress. You use your pad and sleeping bag.

It’s pretty common. Congrats on remission.....and just pack an extra bag of linens. You can find microfiber campers towels that dry quickly. That way, you can pack 1 towel/washcloth each and be fine for the week. You can sink launder them if they get funky.

Yeah you could definitely ship them there, but then you'll have them there and if you need to take them home figure that out?

Have you asked the hosts for a solution? May be a small local store down the road to solve your problem?

Just stop at the local Dollar Store and buy some when you get to town then dump them when you leave.
