What's some good activities around the area for this time of year
Hiking, biking, and golf are the big three. Atv and side by side rentals are a great way to spend the day as well. Another poster mentioned going to Melanzana in Leadville, they make awesome stuff at cheap prices but they don’t normally have much stock to chose from.

Mohawk Lakes. Or try your lungs on Quandary, one of the shortest and easiest 14ers. No matter what you hike, do it in the morning and be heading down by lunchtime.

What are the chances of altitude sickness for a Louisiana baw like myself up in Breckenridge? I'm bringing medicine just in case.

I’m not the best source for recs. My hiking experience is limited. Hopefully, you get some good recs here. Breck’s Visitors Center on Main likely has resources. There are great trails throughout Summit County. Hop3 the trip goes well.

Depends on your body. Of course there’s a chance. Happens to a lot of people. Drink a lot of water before your trip and start eating ibuprofen the night before travel.

Altitude effects people way differently, it’s hard to predict. I had a friend from Arkansas come up last week who is in pretty good shape and I thought he was going to die when we were walking into red rocks for a show. Had to go see medical for some oxygen. Other people have no effects at all.

That little crepes place is legit. The line is always long though.

I like Eric's too.

I’m in decent shape, and hiked to 11,000 feet there last summer. (I don’t recall which hill, or the distance.) We went early, and got back around 1 pm, which I REALLY recommend. Starts getting ate up with people mid morning.

I felt like death warmed over the rest of the day, but was back to 90% the next morning. Weird. Like others said, drink copious amounts of water. I’m not sure why you get so dehydrated, but I know you do.

Hanging Lake is about 1 hour 30 minutes away if you are interested in checking it out. It's not a bad hike if you are looking for something to do.

Definitely stop by Outer Range Brewing in Frisco.

Drink a lot of water, and you should be fine with the altitude, but as has been said, everyone is different.

I just got back, and I was fine pretty much the whole time. I live in Alabama.

If you are going to have a vehicle out there, I'd suggest driving through Independence Pass(continental divide.) One of the most beautiful drives I've ever been on.

Quandry, and Mohawk Lakes would be sweet too.

eta: just saw the date of your post. You are out there at the perfect time IMO. Great hiking weather, and how about those leaves changing? Have fun.

You can pick up the Colorado trail on the edge of town. The bus will drop you off at trailhead. Hike over the mountain to copper mountain have a beer and take bus back to Breckinridge. Takes you over 12k’ about 15 miles I think.

Or head south to Quandary, or other 14’ers.
