Honeymoon to Europe just booked. Bratislava was one of the stops. A buddy of mine is traveling by himself and said hes been hearing from other travelers that Bratislava is boring, not much to do. Has anyone else been there and can give some input? We'll be close by as we'll also be stopping in Prague and Budapest too.

Going Dublin: London: Amsterdam: Prague: Bratislava: Budapest: Zagreb. So if Bratislava is bad we'll replace it with somewhere else

TIA

That's a ton of traveling, most will tell you too much but if you guys are young and never been to Europe and looking for a busy Honeymoon it is what it is.

I simply came here to say I'd highly recommend getting out and away from the big cities a couple of days. Those cities are great, but there's a lot more to do then just go from big city center to big city center. Getting away is cheaper, usually more relaxing, and you are getting away from tourists and a better taste of local life too.

Do you know of any smaller areas close to the places I mentioned?

4 days tops in most cities and you can see most of it, be prepared to shell out a ton of money for tours though.

Munich or Innsbruck Austria is a good base, google King Ludwig Castles, as an alternative.

Some of my Prague pics.

I'm assuming you are not married yet? Some people do a later honeymoon. What are your ages?

You honestly should probably have 2 threads. Bratislava and Slovakia/ Croatia.

Then do another for honeymoon in Europe for someone X age that likes Y things to do.

I did a 14 night Euro trip with my wife we did Oktoberfest, Austria, and Northern Italy including Venice.

My Advice would be to pick somewhere to stay for a good 5-7 nights to relax fairly shortly after you land. Any wedding even very small has a lot to do the week of the wedding. A lot of pieces to come together, you will both be very busy. Its nice to have some time to chill and be together without having to do anything. Then however much you want to go nuts and stay busy outside of that is up to you.

ETA: You don't want to get home and need a vacation after your 3 week vacation because you are tired and worn out. Is what I was saying.

You can do it, I've traveled like that before. You may be tired in the end and if one of you gets sick it'll suck, but it's all dependent on whether you like that type of pace or not.

Replace Bratislava with Vienna, which is also in between Prague and Budapest. Vienna is special and I'm not sure why it gets overlooked nowadays. Plus I imagine whatever you were hoping to find in Bratislava will be in Zagreb.

Came to post this. Pretty much nothing going on in Bratislava. Vienna is gorgeous.

Also, obligatory:

Yes it is. You are underestimating travel time

2 hours needed before flight
30-1hr tarmac and disembarking
1 hour getting to your hotel/Airbnb
Possibly another hour or 2 carrying backs if checkin time isn’t until later

Then all over again when leaving that city

Now you're talking Romance! Nothing better than seeing these amazing markets around Europe during the holidays.

But...

I think you're taking on way too much for a trip that's supposed to be romantic and relaxing. I'd personally cut that in half.

Have't been to Bratislava, but I have been to most of those other locations.

Unless you really, really want to do that, and can put up with the "If it's Tuesday it must be XXXXXXX" (which leads to stress, arguments, being tired etc. with that pace), pick just a couple and enjoy both the cities and the country side.

I echo Prague and Budapest particularly, but did enjoy Vienna a lot and their markets were amazing. BUT..it's a huge city. Love Austria though and maybe you go to Salzburg instead? Magical that time of year.

BUT...

my vote would be just Prague and visit outside of the city. Amazing country and town. Hungary and Budapest are a close second.

Thanks for the help.

Made some changes.

15 days now: London - Prague - Brno- Vienna - Bratislava - Gyor - Budapest. Figured since Brno, Vienna, Bratislava, Gyor, and Budapest are all an hour drive from each other I can knock out each on a 24 hour trip, and relax in London, Prague, and Budapest.

The only thing im trying to decide on is if I want to switch Brno with Ceske Budejovice or Cesky Krumlov

It has been quite a while since I was there, but Zagreb was very disappointing. Bratislava was fun for partying/night life/beautiful women, but not a lot to do outside of the castle, old town, and some art galleries. I would skip Bratislava and do Vienna or Tokaj. I would also highly recommend skipping Zagreb and doing Ljubulana instead unless you need to fly out of Zagreb.

How risking is booking hotels the day of in central Europe? Other than London and prague to start off, the nest few places like vienna, gyor, budapest, Bratislava have no set time timetable.
