Search this board for Austin. There are several threads which list all kinds of things to see, places to visit, restaurants to eat at, bars to hang out in....etc.

Salt Lick BBQ is a cool place if you don’t mind driving about 30 minutes out of town to Driftwood. You have to bring your own beer.

Franklins BBQ is good if you don’t mind a 3 hour wait. Like Yogi said; no one (the locals) goes there anymore cause it’s too crowded.

There are many bars w/ bands on 6th street or there were - been about 10 years since I was there.

Salt Lick in Driftwood is also CASH only.

I personally like Hoover's Cooking for a good southern homestyle meal.

Breweries:

Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co - decent beer with good food. Nice shaded patio/courtyard with plenty of room.
Nomadic Beerworks - really good beer, but only the outside area is open which is small and very hot.
Jester King - fantastic beer, but 20-30 minutes out of the city depending on where you’re staying. Well worth the trip though and they have incredible pizza there too. They’re on a reservation basis right now so it’s a little funky. You reserve your time and seating area, then order online once you’re there. They text you when it’s ready and you go to the pick up area and grab it. It can be annoying, so they let you bring coolers in so you can just buy a bunch at one time then relax at your table.


Food: (most if not all should be currently open and if not, hopefully are by mid July)

Via 313 (Detroit style) or Homeslice (NY style) for pizza.
Uchi or Uchiko for incredible sushi
Perla’s has a great selection of NE and pacific oysters
Juliet is really good Italian in a cool old house.
Bar Peached for very good Asian fusion. Their double fried wings are incredible.
Loro is a joint project of Aaron Franklin and Tyson Cole (Uchi/Uchiko) for Asian/BBQ fusion. Great brisket sandwiches. Their corn fritter is deep fried sex.
Dan’s Hamburgers if you feel the need for a burger and great curly fries. Dan’s makes whataburger look like McDonald’s. You’ll see a lot of P Terry’s that are busy as shite, but they were very meh when I tried them.
G’raj Mahal on Rainey, Asiana south of town, and Bombay Dhaba food truck on south 1st have been our favorite spots for Indian.
Steiner Ranch for steak and a beautiful view overlooking Lake Travis. It is 20-30 minutes out depending on where you are staying.
Barley Swine was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. 10 course with wine pairing. If it’s open, get the chef’s counter seating and enjoy.


As for bars, I’m not sure what if anything is open for live music right now. I haven’t hit much of the bar scene yet, but if you’re into craft beer, then Craft Pride on Rainey will be your best bet. If it’s up and running like normal, they’ll have a Via 313 food trailer in the back courtyard with live music playing. Great tap list with a lot of local/Texas brews.

Barton Springs and Zilker is a must!
I recommend south congress for the vibe/music and just a nice area.
