Im heading to Asheville next month for a concert. Im hoping to squeeze in a 2 day backpacking trip with a little fly fishing. Any recommendations for trout streams near trails? Maybe in the Smokies?

I believe the Linville gorge is close. River at the bottom but not sure about fishing.

Just found Hazel Creek in the Smokies. Looks like a winner

Look at the Art Loeb trail in Pisgah NF. It will be a bit closer to Asheville.

Don't have any recs over real close to Asheville, but stayed in Bryson City last month and fished Deep Creek in the park, the Tuck in Bryson City & over in Cherokee (different license needed there FYI). Fish everywhere. Was a lot of fun.

Look around Hot Springs, NC. AT runs right through there and the French Broad is right there. Haven't fished that section but may be more marginal for trout there. Don't underestimate a good smallmouth on the fly though. I'd rather catch those any day and the FB river has a good population. Spring Creek near Hot Springs is well stocked with trout. While in Asheville, hit up the Pinball Museum pre-concert. Unlimited play for a flat fee. Great beer selection with cup holders on the machines!

The Linville Gorge would be a wild trip but I've rarely heard it recommended for casual fly fishermen. It's hard in and out and remote. I think it makes a decent argument for the best backcountry in the entire east, though.

I planned a kayak-launched camping/fishing trip to Hazel Creek that I had to abandon a few years back. Still on my list.

Art Loeb Trail and you can fish the Davidson River right there and a few spots up higher.

Hazel Creek was going to be the spot until my girlfriend found out about the bear attacks at the campsite I picked lol.

Ill check out some other areas. I may have to make fishing a separate trip
