Wife and I have the travel bug (went to South Africa earlier this year) and friends invited us to go to Croatia this fall.
Was wondering if anyone has been and how it was? Looks pretty awesome in pictures.

Whole family is going to southern Croatia next month --Dubrovnik, Hvar, Vis, and Split. Been wanting to go for 10 years. I'll report on highlights after the trip.

I'll be there for my first time August 23 - Sept 3 of this year. Starting in Zagreb and road tripping to Slunj, Plitvice Lakes National Park, Zadar, Krka National Park, Split, Hvar, Mostar (Bosnia), and Dubrovnik.
There have been a few recent threads about Croatia, you'll probably find a little bit of reading material on here if you search it.

I spent a few days in Dubrovnik. Stay at the Hilton. Its a neat little town. 3 days there is good. Flying in can be really tricky because of the high winds at the airport. I flew from Zagreb and during approach the plane was blown around pretty good. We had to abort the landing and fly into Split. That was about a 4 hour bus ride to Dubrovnik. Same happened on the return trip. Airport was closed due to high winds. That was the only time I actually thought I was going down in a plane crash.

For those of you that have flown in/out of Split or Dubrovnik, who did you fly with and where is the best place to find a deal on flights?

We're due for some pics and thoughts on South Africa.
Was that the first international trip y'all have taken or the first in a long while? Sounds like it must have went well with y'all so quickly getting back on the horse.
Croatia is high on my list as well. I loved Greece and think Croatia and of course, Italy, are all probably can't miss destinations.

Went to Europe and it was my favorite spot. Was there for 6 days. Wasn't enough. Beaches, water and islands are amazing. As is food and old towns. I didn't even get to go to the national parks.
Go for 14 days at the least

I booked Vueling from Rome to Dubrovnik.
I booked EasyJet from Split to Naples.
I have not flown either before, but have had good experiences before on small airlines like Air Dolomiti.

Haha - your right. On call this weekend and work has been crazy since getting back.
I'll start getting things organized!
To answer your question - this was my wife and I's first international trip together, save for carribean. I used to travel when in college, but not much internationally since then.

We went last August. 3 days in dubrovnik then 5 days near Bol. I would have loved to hit the national parks, but it was tough with 3 kids, and we really wanted a vacation without too much moving around.
The beaches and water were amazing, and we would definitely go again. I have several friends that did a trip with a sailboat and island hopped for a week. Great beaches, intermittent hiking, and a bit more private than a cruise ship or a big resort.

Just got back from our 8th trip. Love it. If we fly into split we go croatian airlines. we flew into zagreb this time, deal on airfrance for less than $500 from iah. Turkish air has good prices also. Lots to do, from laying around on a beach to extreme sports.
