Pre 9/11 crossing into Canada was closer to going to another state than it was another country.

Post 9/11 they secured the border and the level of scrutiny went way up.

Frankly right now with relations so frayed unless I was just flying somewhere to go fish or already had a ski trip booked I wouldn’t want to be up there as an American until things chill out a bit.

Not that I think it’s unsafe, but depending on where you are it could just be uncomfortable in a way I wouldn’t want to deal with on a vacation.

In Vancouver Canada the girls at Wendy's were bringing other girls out of the back to hear me talk. They were fascinated by a Southern accent. I told my brother, "you go on back without me."

Canada immigration/border control are worse than any country I've been to, since 9/11, and Americans are singled out. Australia was a less of a pain in the arse. The other 20ish countries were total cake, including plenty of corrupt 2nd/3rd world countries.

And this was mostly flying into Winnipeg when it was cold, where nobody in their right might would purposefully do unless they were going to work.

Flew into Montreal. It was thanksgiving week. Had a great time. Montreal is awesome!

Did an Alaskan cruise and the ship stopped at Victoria, BC. Also had a good time.

Wife and I go to Toronto quite a bit. Her mom's side of the family is from there and we've done the drive to/from Chicago (boring and long as hell) multiple times, but exclusively fly now. I've never had issue with anyone at the airport, and coming back is an absolute breeze, but their Border Services in a car near Ambassador Bridge (Detroit / Windsor) is hilarious. Those dudes are angry

You would have a hard time. They actually speak English in Canada.

I worked for a consulting firm in Detroit and we did a lot of grocery store work. We worked with Sobeys in the late 80's when they were expanding into the smaller towns in Ontario. We did site location and sales forecasting back when gravity modeling was first used on PC's.

This.

Drove in/out and flew in/out multiple times

Both modes painless for me.

Just don’t be stupid.

Heading to Alberta again this Summer.

Once we drove across the border at Niagara Falls on the way to Toronto. The other time we stepped off a cruise ship. I was also born in Canada, I think that counts.

I’ve done both - driven in/out through Bellingham Washington.

Also have flown into Calgary.

I’m actually in Alberta BC now snowboarding.

The exchange rate is pretty damn strong right now for Americans.

I love Canada.

I worked for a company based in Buffalo and would have to go up there a couple times a month. I like to gamble so I’d go to the casino in Niagara (it was non smoking while the one on the US side was not). Only grief I got on the Canadian side was them wondering why I was walking across. Worst crossing story was coming back to US in my rental car. I suppose they saw my semi regular crossings and snagged me for a “random” inspection one night. I had to wait a half an hour for the agent to inspect my car. There was nothing in it other than my rental agreement.
