Step kid wants to fish for his senior trip in May.
Does anyone have any good suggestions? I’m thinking maybe Costa Rica.

Would be a good choice. Roosters inshore and so much more offshore. Lots of other things to do in CR as well. If strictly fishing, I'd be may be going Guatemala or Panama.

Go to Elfin Cove, AK. See whales, bears, orcas, otters, catch fish... Or go to Homer and the Kenai, saltwater and freshwater fishing. Compete with bears for your fish.

I’d love to go to Kenai but stepkid is envisioning somewhere hot.

My dad took us to Belize after our high school graduation many moons ago.
Took a boat out to Glover's Reef and stayed on the island for a week. Nothing but diving and fishing, but we had a blast.
Belize has a lot of options for fishing. That's just one. Do some research. Not too far away from hubs like Houston and it's very unique. You can take inland tours to see Mayan Ruins. Great trip for us.

He would be happy today, it's 80 degrees. Hotter the next couple.

Like HGG said, Cabo would be awesome for an 18 yr old who loves fishing

Bahamas is another easy trip with plenty of angling opportunities

yeah need to narrow it down some....
saltwater or freshwater?
inshore or offshore?
in U.S. or out?
Costa Rica would be a blast. Great fishing and plenty of other "eco tourism" activities. Zip lining rain forest, atv tours, river rafting, etc.
Cabo a fun spot too and the kid could probably "party" more, but not sure I'd turn my 18 yr old loose in Cabo.
Puerto Aventuras and/or Isla Mujerus, Mexico - a stones throw from Cancun. Great sailfish action too. Lots to do on that side of Mexico too. Mayan ruins was fun.
Florida Keys would be my vote for the states. So much to do down there.

I think I’m liking Cabo. He won’t get to party much because parents, but he will like that it’s a bit touristy.
Question now is all inclusive or do an air bnb? There’s some pretty nice places for under $100 a night.

If you are in Cabo primarily to fish and do a little bit of socializing in town, stay right there near the marina. There are several affordable options.
Pisces has top tier boats and captains/crew. Redrum is a favorite on this board. You can always go down to the marina and negotiate directly with the captain of a boat, you will get your best deal that way.

If pure billfish numbers is what you are after, i second Guatemala. I go once a year. My trip in may we released 43 sailfish and 3 blue marlin. 20+ dorados for eating. Most trips average 5-10 billfish a day with bigger days coming frequently.

Redrum is great. I would stay away from haggling at the marina, you may get a good deal but thats about it. I have always prebooked with redrum. Ryan is a good old boy.

Not to derail, but...
Do you have some good recommendations there? It's been on my list for a while, but haven't done much research on it yet.
