re: American Airlines is a terrible company

And primarily I would also pay more than double the fares for quite a few folks. More economical to just take the changes and drive to Vail.
Did they not give you the option to cancel and get your money back? Switch up the airlines?
I am not that upset that the change was desired, I am more upset that no one notified me. What if I was 20 years old and couldn’t rent a car? This happen to me in my late college years when I had about 59 extra dollars, I would just have to hitch hike to Vail.

When an airline does something like this, you're always allowed to change to whatever flights you want. They cannot just change your origin/destination without your approval. In this case they did, but you would've been eligible for a refund (which you didn't want), a change to a nearby airport for free (both coming and leaving HDN), or a change of dates.
Next time, call in. The agents on the messaging apps are not very skilled, you'll find better agents in the middle of the week from 9am-5pm. It's not just AA that this is the case for. I won't call in over the weekends unless absolutely necessary and only for a small fix.

None of the times available or departure cities make any sense for us at this time, we had a pretty narrow window to get in and out with kids in school and other parties work schedules. I did wait until 12 AM for a call back on a 8pm call yesterday, AA will do absolutley nothing given that I used Chase to book it, they insist I must go thru Chase for any itinerary changes. They have only offered a refund,
quote:Tell them that. I even went as far with Chase as to have them send me all information they have on my reservation, there is nothing to indicate that Chase had any knowledge of this change. Hell, the Chase site still has my trip information as returning out of HDN.

quote:Maybe so, but the 40 minute wait time turned into 4 plus hours.....other calls, including this morning a 2 hour wait time was anticipated. Going on a trip with Delta in February, for shits and giggles called into them this morning to see how long it would take, estimate was 30 minutes and they called me back in 20.

Normally they say to contact them after the travel has occurred to discuss compensation but you should be able to move things around to other flights that have open seats without cost.
I am not much for federal regulation but the airline industry is hot garbage.
My comparison would be if I went out to eat and ordered the osso bucco for $40. I waited patiently and about 5 minutes before everyone elses food was ready they told me they didnt have any osso bucco but would bring me a $19 chicken parm. If I didn't want the chicken parm I would order something else but I couldn't be given a refund and at best, they would give me a gift card for a portion of the $40 osso bucco I ordered.

Why not just drive to dfw and catch the flight to Hayden direct

That's been tried before. Although that would get most of us out of the skies and back onto buses and horrific car trips with the fam.

Already driving to shv.
There are a lot of options, but all require more money or altering pretty closely timed plans significantly. Can’t leave home till Friday morning. Really need to be back Christmas Eve.
There is very little in life can’t be fixed with more effort or more money. The least expensive and most timely fix is driving to Vail. I still don’t agree with changing a departure city, not time, without notifying.

I never book airline tickets through a third party. I only book hotel rooms through a third party in rare occasion. I’ve been in your shoes before. Airlines and hotels are more likely to work with you if you booked directly with them. If you don’t have any travel or hotel issues third party works great. If you do have problems then the excuse not to help you will always be that we can’t help you since you booked your trip through another party.

It's not an excuse. The third party pays them with a one time use credit card, and the payment amount cannot be modified by the hotel in any way. TalesFromTheFrontDesk is a good reddit forum to read before 0600 about third parties, among other things.
I can *always* tell who booked through a third party when I'm in the lobby of a hotel. It's always too many minutes at the front desk, followed by the guest sitting in the lobby on their phone turning red, then eventually going back to the desk, after the third party calls the front desk to try to get shite for free out of the hotel.

Thanks for that info. I didn’t know how it worked. I just know it doesn’t work well if there is a problem.
