Was supposed to do Toronto to close out 2024 but had to pull the plug at the last minute. Based on this thread I need to plan a return trip ASAP and also get to Mexico City

Toronto kicks arse. My MIL and her side of the family is all from there, so we go there a couple times each year. Reminds me so much of Chicago - very neighborhood-centric with bars, breweries and restaurants. A lot of great parks and recreation available, too.

CDMX is awesome, too. Had a couple sentences to say about it earlier in the thread.

Stayed in the Americas this year. Exciting travel this coming spring, though!

ETA: Ugh, not sure why Imgur link isn't working. Anyway, basically did a bunch of domestic routes + Toronto and a few spots in South America and Mexico.

Let's see if this works:

Different year of travel for me, boring by the map standards, but very exciting in other ways.

Same. I don't travel much for work anymore, especially internationally like I used to, but first visit to Alaska & WA (separate trips) with some great hiking. Also, second trip to Costa Rica and first billfish success.

I'm looking for a long weekend to get back up there in the first half of the year, especially since I have all of this AA credit burning a hole in my pocket.

New countries for me: Equador, El Salvador, Ethiopia

My Galapagos trip was awesome -- one of the best trips I've ever done.

Went to San Diego for a convention for the first time since I lived there as a kid. Did the zoo, natch.

I went to El Salvador for a week of Spanish school in the summer to improve my language skills. I did some sightseeing, but El Salvador's volcanoes and lakes aren't really elite attractions. But the country is safe now, and cheap, so it was a good choice for a week primarily focused on studying.

I'm still in Ethiopia right now (arrived 12/24 and return home tomorrow), and I'll do a thread for sure. Some experiences here have been absolutely incredible, while some others have just been OK. But I've now been to 45 countries and usually don't return to them, because the world's a big place and there's lots more of it to see and experience, but I think I'll be back to Ethiopia.

On the docket for 2025: trips already booked for Egypt for Spring Break and South Africa in June. This year's convention is in Seattle, another new US city for me.

Jan Cancun for a week
Feb Nashville
Apr providence and Stowe
Apr st augustine
May Las Vegas
June vail and evergreen CO
Sep Sedona AZ
Sep evergreen and Buena vista CO
Oct Huntsville AL
Dec Norfolk and Hampton VA

In 2025 we are making the same trip to Cancun next week and then the big trip is 2.5 weeks Idaho to Wyoming to Montana in august. We’ll be retired come April so our travel will need to simultaneously increase in volume while decreasing in daily cost

Monthly trips to Florida (Tampa, Orlando, Ft. Myers, and Miami)
Charleston
New York (2 trips)
Italy
Catalina Island
Flew biz class on a380 on Emirates from JFK >MXP and that was easily the best flight I’ve ever been on; wish it would have lasted 5 more hours.
New airport Naples, Italy which just distills the essence of Naples into airport form - and I like Naples.
