I scored practice round tickets to the 2022 Open at St. Andrews. My group is planning to do Scotland for 3 days and then London for 3 days. Does anyone have advice on flights to Scotland and places to stay? We’ve thought about flying into Edinburg and then finding transportation from Edinburg to St. Andrews.

My wife and I did that. Stay in Edinburgh and take the train to St. Andrews. It's a great trip. We went the week after the Open though. I would buy train tickets now if possible

I prefer to fly into Heathrow, come downtown on the HEX. It dumps you off at Paddington. Grab a full english breakfast across the street and then take a late afternoon or overnight train to Edinburgh.

In EDB, I'm a fan of Dishoom (indian), Hawksmoor, and The Ivy for restaurants. All three are very good. Old town Edinburg is like 1500's Gatlinburg, spend an hour or two but no more.

I love Edinburgh, have a great time. All of Scotland is full of nice people and its beautiful.

I will be there as well. We have 4 days in Edinburgh and then 4 in London. Flights into Edinburgh is about as far as I have gotten with regards to planning.

Set a bunch of flight trackers. May also be able to fly into Dublin as flight deals there can be had and then Dublin to Edinburgh.

I’d strongly consider more time in Scotland if you’ve never been. UK countryside is underated

Plan your whole trip on TripMasters.com

Very easy if you're doing multiple cities.

Going for the practice rounds as well, going to do a few days in Scotland before, and trying to determine where else to go while over there.

I've been to Edinburgh and St. Andrews twice. IMO, your best bet for transportation is the train. There is no train station in St. Andrews, but it's in Leuchars, about 5 or 6 miles from St.Andrews. You can then take a taxi or uber. It's easy, and not a very long train ride. Maybe an hour, and trains leave about every hour.

You would enjoy Edinburgh, but I did exactly the opposite. I stayed in St. Andrews and took the rain to Edinburgh for a day. I was there in 2015, 2 weeks before the open. It's an amazing place. The Old Course is public land. Townspeople walk their dogs on the fairways on Sunday mornings...it's closed on Sundays, or at least it was. And in 2015 it was closed food a few weeks before the Open, so I could walk around the whole course.

I used Trip Advisor and picked one of the highest rated BnBs. Not expensive.

See my info about the train. It's super easy. Once you get to St. Andrews, it's a great town to walk around in.

Anytime you are in Scotland there are pipes and drums parades going on somewhere. Just ask around.
