I would do Sun Valley, Snowbasin, Alta-Bird, Aspen, Copper and A-basin.
That would be an epic trip. If you are skiing on a weekend try to line it up with Aspen, best place to ski on the Ikon during the weekend. Minimal lift lines at Snowmass once you get away from the intermediate zones and the same goes for Highlands.

I’d put Ajax as the must do Ikon mountain in CO.

Big shout out for posting the Slopes app
I just downloaded it, way better than the one I was using, Ski Tracks. It even let me import my old data too.
Now my updated Top Speed PR is 52.4, from like 4 years ago. Other app had it at 49.6.

Steamboat is getting record snow this year. I am tired of seeing pics from there this year. I expect all the trees to be missing all their branches after this year.
Prepare yourself for a few more pics, hitting Steamboat this weekend.

Why not the best of both worlds?
Sun Valley, Big Sky, Jackson, Snowbasin, Alta-Bird, Aspen, Copper, Abasin, WP, Steamboat.
You could brag to your kids and grandkids that you did the Ultimate Ikon Achievement.
Montana/Wyoming/N.Co and ID/UT/Aspen/I-70.
5 individual mountains versus Lots of resorts close together.
Personally, I'd choose the one that has the most stops you haven't done before, which for me would be the I-84 route. (Loved Aspen & Copper, A-basin is ok).
I've done all of the I-90 ones, and the only one I wouldn't go back to is Winter Park.
I'm kinda jealous.

quote:Add Sun Valley on the way, and it's hard to beat this combo. Easily spend 2-3 days at BS & JH ... and 1-2 at SS & WP.
I think a lot of it is personal preference. If I had the freedom of time so would do: Seattle -> Big Sky -> Jackson -> Steamboat -> Winter Park

Some pics. I lost a ton of video and photos when I lost my damn go pro somewhere on the mountain so this is all I have.

Anybody been to Taos recently? WE are driving there this mardi gras due to increased air fares to steamboat/denver. Looks like the boat has gotten loaded down with snow. Hope i am not making a huge mistake.....but the amount i am saving is a couple thousand.
Posted on 2/1/23 at 1:31 pm to bushwacker
Just checked on Open Snow. Taos is running at 89% of average snowpack, most places in CO are in the 130%+.

thanks maybe i'll get lucky and a few storms track south over the next weeks.

Absolutely.
Are you looking at Taos because you are on Ikon? If not, check out flights to Gunnison to hit up CB.

Appreciate all of the helpful route suggestions
. This is after getting laid off from work so I'm taking the time to relax before getting back to the grind. When else will I get the chance to go skiing like this is how I'm justifying this trip.
Will be spending most of my time at cheap motels so as long as they have a comfy bed and free breakfast that's all I care about. Whoever mentioned taking I-80 vs I-70, that is my bad. Hadn't looked at a map and see that 70 is the way to go through CO.
Honestly, this may be the way I go.
2 days at Sun Valley
2 days at Big Sky.
0-2 days at Jackson? I've been to Jackson before so debating on skipping it or seeing if I can get a cheap hotel room for 1-2 nights. Otherwise I go straight toward SLC
1 day at Snowbasin
1 day at Alta/Snowbird
1 day at Solitude/Brighton
1-2 days at Aspen (been there before but it's been a long time)
1 day at Copper?
1 day at A-basin?
1 day at WP (been there but it's been a while)
1 day at Steamboat
That'd be a max of 15 days of skiing in a row or adding in some driving days to split it up. If anyone is in those areas let me know, happy to share a ski day with ya

nope, we went there when we were 18 back in the 90's and drove. it wasn't that bad. I'll check gunnison flights for next time. our vrbo is booked already and paid, as well as lift tickets and lessone for the kid.

What dates are you looking at being in Sun Valley?
I’ll be there 3/5-3/10 and will buy an unemployed baw a beer if it lines up.

I'm thinking of getting a hall pass and joining up at SLC.
This is gonna be an awesome road trip.

Ugh I think I'll miss you by two days. If I leave WA it'll be on 3/1 so unless I take a detour I'll be in Boise/Sun Valley 3/2-3/3. I still need to confirm with the landlord that I'm here through 3/1, if the dates are pushed by a day or two I'll let you know.

You're more than welcome to hop on at any point along the way. I've seen UT and CO getting hammered with snow compared to the PNW so it should be great spring conditions there

Sister is getting married 2nd weekend in March. So, that probably ruins this opportunity for me.
Don't worry, I'll hold it against her forever.
Post pics of your trip though. This is a once in a lifetime adventure of epic proportions (from the perspective of a wanna-be ski bum stuck in the South).
