Preliminary planning for next year. What are some resorts with comparable variety to Vail? I fell in love with Vail this year (traditional resort in the front, amazing back bowls, fantastic glades in BSB). If I only went to Vail from now on, I’d be perfectly happy but I’m also looking to mix things up.

I’m not the most experienced ski traveler to offer an answer for you, but not many resorts are in the same class as Vail. I’ve only skied Vail, Breck and Park City. The PC area is big, varied, and awesome. We love Breck for our own reasons...and it’s an awesome venue even without our prejudices...haha. There just aren’t many “Vails” out there.

I’ve ridden only those as well and Whistler. Wasn’t a fan of Breck. Feel like I fought cat tracks all damn day. Cat tracks in Vail were better sloped but that’s another discussion. PC will always hold a special place in my heart, that’s where my boy learned to ride. I just had so much damn fun in Vail and am strongly leaning that way because I’m afraid anywhere else I choose, I’ll be dreaming about China Bowl and Big Rock Park the whole time.

How was Whistler ? Already starting to plan a trip for New Years up that way. Just me n mrs jkyle. Figured we would ski three days and try to find some stuff to do around Vancouver for another 2-3 days. I’ve heard good things but never really talked to anyone that’s actually been.

Aspen would probably be the most comparable but in many ways is even better than Vail. It isn't as crowded because you are further from Denver, skiing is even more diverse.

Big Sky would be another, huge amount terrian wtih bowls and glades but the resort isn't as developed.

Alta-Snowbird the best skiing in the world but there isn't much resort infastructure up on LCC. If you like bowls and glades it is hard to beat Alta-Bird. Mineral Basin may be my favorite area to ski in the country. There is nice ski in/ski out options but it is very quiet at night.

Amazing. Great village and you feel pretty isolated which I like. Mountains were great. Was so massive that there weren’t ever any lines because people were so dispersed. Snowed 72” the four days we were there. I know you can’t judge based off some crazy weather in past years but was incredible. We did 2 days in Seattle,2 in Vancouver and 4 in Whistler. Would do that trip again in a heartbeat.

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. Any other recs of things to do in the Whistler/Vancouver area ? I think three days or me n wife skiing will be plenty. She’s mentioned wanting to do some bobsled thing they offer there.

I’ve heard they have some pretty incredible snowmobile tours but I’ve not done them.

I thought Vail was confusing as frick with the catwalks. It seemed as if every single decent blue ended up bottoming out then transitioning to either a slow catwalk or an ungroomed black.

Maybe so, although I didn’t experience that but I only spent 2 days there and 75% of that time in the back bowls and bsb. I did notice on the front side that they had some cat tracks that switch-backed and intersected with blues and blacks. But that didn’t bother me. I just looked up slope to make sure no one was coming down the green and kept riding over it and continued the blue or black

Any Spring skiing trips planned? We’ll hit Breck one last time in mid-April to close out.

Heading up to Banff in a little over a week, likely going to be the final trip of the season. Contemplating if I want to go to Kicking Horse as well when I'm up there.

Going to Stowe, Vermont late March. They just got a ton of snow Saturday, so if there’s a few dustings here and there, it should be in good shape.

Had an immaculate day in the Stone Creek Chutes after a fresh 6" yesterday. This is my 5th visit to Beaver Creek since I learned to ski here 4 years ago.

I’m guessing that’s the Grand Hyatt. This may be a money board crossover topic, but that hotel has some of the best credit card point/Hyatt point redemption. 30k points per night is about $450 in Chase cash value for CSR cardholders but the hotel consistently is $800-$1200/night during the high season. You have to book early though (mid summer for winter stays) as the availability dries up quickly. The Hyatt in Vail has similar value.

We spent 3 days in Crested Butte last weekend. It’s a great mountain. We missed the powder day but the snow was great and the skies were blue. Our condo was right next to the West Wall lift. We could ski to the truck, throw the skis in the box, and the condo entrance was 20’ away.
