Has anyone here done the Lake Chutes at Breck? Trying to decide whether to spend a day at Breck when I am in CO in a couple weeks but honestly that's really the only thing that interests me there and not sure if the hike to terrain is worth it.

Day 2 at Vail. Pretty packed snow but still had a good day.

I hit up Whale Tail on the other side last Sunday. Lake Chutes were closed. It’s a great view for sure. The “hike” wasn’t very long. With better coverage or less concern about your equipment you can traverse and not take the 5min hike. Conditions were ok and made the run ok. It’s probably magical if you catch it on a powder day. It’s steeper than I expected.
Of course the pics don’t do it justice. Most people skied down the ridge where the cornice was broken up a bit. It was still 3’ for most of it. Some people was sending it off the bigger sections.
The Lake Chutes looked to have a lot of no-fall and coverage concerns right now. The trip up Imperial is worth it for the views alone.
CO needs some snow. Copper was packed down hard today. I got in good bump run at the end of the day (Too Much).

Lake chutes proper will have a mandatory drop. Probably 7-10’ if I had to guess right now. You can take a side hit called easy street I think and cut in and still get some steep pitches.
But I think ski patrol is keeping it closed until new snow.
I prefer the hike up and then cutting over to whales tail or lapping chair 6 on a powder day to the imperial lift.

Had plans to ski Alta today but looked online last night and saw I needed a parking reservation. Checked and nothing available for today... So here I am at Snowbird. Tried to reserve parking online for Snowbird but again nothing available so got here around 750am for the free parking. Lot was empty
. Waiting for the tram and will ski a half day before heading to the airport. Beautiful sunny skies with no clouds today

Is the Imperial Chair open at all at Breck?

I was at snowbird last week on a nice pow day. The back bowls are great. Enjoy yourself.

Yea Imperial is open. The entire mountain is.

My plan for next week
February 7 Vail
February 8 Breck
February 9 Beaver Creek
February 10 Vail
Aim is to do Prima Cornice for the first time at Vail
Whatever runs are open off Imperial Express at Breck
Hoping Stone Creek Chutes are open at Beaver Creek. That's the only double black I haven't done there.

We get to Telluride tomorrow morning. Looks like they, and most of Colorado, are finally getting some welcomed snow on Tuesday night and Wednesday. Projected numbers vary between 5 and 10 inches. Not a ton but should be enough to last us with good coverage for our four days of skiing.

I think you’ll be on the high side of that. It’s going to be cold AF after that system so dress accordingly.

Vail today and holy shite did it not disappoint. Blue skies, perfect temps. Back bowls are some of the most fun riding I’ve ever done. So far, China bowl and big rock park in BSB are my lifetime highlights.
I have to go back to Vail someday and give it another shot, I had fun but the crowds and marginal snow kind of put a damper on things. A sneaky powder day in the back bowls are still a dream of mine.

The crowds on both Friday and Saturday were unexpectedly light. Longest I waited was 5 minutes to get to BSB. Seemed like that’s where everyone was heading so I didn’t bother on Saturday. I rode Sun up and China bowl for the first half of the day and then had some fun on the front side. Dragons Teeth was my first black diamond. I’d kill to be riding that right now. And no I didn’t jump the cliffs. Haha there was a way down between them but they had a ton of people sending it. Looked like a blast but I’m not there yet.

What's the best rental shop in Breckenridge?
We usually use Main Street Sports, but I got offered a pretty good discount from Avalanche Sports.

I've skiied a lot of days at Vail in my life, but I've never been there on a powder day before. Last March when I was there it did snow overnight but that was my day at Beaver Creek so I got the powder day in there.
I drop in to Lover's Leap instead of sending because I don't want to destroy my knees landing on moguls... its my dream to be able to send off the Lover's Leap cornice into powder instead of a mogul field.

Dragon's Teeth was the first ever cliff I sent off of

Damn that sucks. I was there in mid April a few years ago and we got a random unplanned storm. Must have dropped 4+". I was going for speed records in the Sundown bowl. You could fall, do a flip, and get right back up without skipping a beat. It was like boarding on a cloud.

Beaver Creek was fun in the powder... all of the normally moguled double black runs off Grouse and Birds of Prey were smooth as silk. Plus it was on a Wednesday in March and no one was there so the snow didn't get scraped off.
I also was lucky to have a couple powder days at Tahoe last year, one at Northstar and one at Kirkwood. And one this past Christmas at Park City.
But Vail? Nope. And looking at the forecast next week when I am set to be there, I'm going to go another year without one.

Headed there in early March and wondering the same.
