I’ve never been skiing before so I don’t know if this is the way to go or not, but you can rent ski clothes online. They will be shipped to you ahead of time and you ship them back afterward. There are several sites out there, but zent seemed to be the cheapest.

Actually bought a Spyder shell jacket on posh mart for $70. 20,000 mm water proof. Similar jackets online look like they’re in the $500 range. Guess we’ll see, if it isn’t as advertised I can send it back.

In Aspen for the week and the conditions are great for Day 1.

Skied Lake Louise in early December and the conditions were marginal but got 1.5 feet during that week, so the conditions ended much better than they started.

Only critical seams sealed on jacket with 10k waterproofing. Not sure how that will hold up against water but it may be fine. I'm more of a fan of a good shell with your choice of layers underneath. The powder skirt is a must have IMO (yours has one)

The spyder I ordered has it? What’s the powder skirt?

Sorry - I only saw your reply to my comment earlier with a different jacket. Spyder is better IMO and it looks like it has a better waterproofing so thats good. The powder skirt is an elastic barrier at your waist that clings to your body to trap out snow. It comes in handy on wipe outs and if you find yourself in scenarios like I did last time: having to scoot down a black because your ski brakes didn't work on a steep slope with fresh powder. I would have had a jacket full of snow otherwise.

Don't forget to check out the Belly Up if you haven't already. Unfortunately it doesn't look like there's a big show on the schedule this week, but still cool to check out. Might wan't to avoid it on Thurs night.

What is the easiest and/or cheapest and/or best way to get from Denver Airport to Breck without renting a car?

Anyone ever taking one of those shuttles?

We are taking the Epic Mountain Express from Denver to Keystone. I have heard that it was like $189 a person, but it is till cheaper than renting an SUV for everyone.

No blackout for epic or epic local passes at Keystone/Breck/ABasin. Mountain will be a clusterfrick.

Any idea on what is usually the least crowded mountain in A-basin? Our Keystone lift tickets can also be used at Vail, Beaver Creek, and Breck so we were thinking of maybe trying to go some place different for Sunday.

Your lift ticket should be good at A-basin too. If a midweek day, might not be corwded there, and close to Keystone.

Breck will be a shitshow.

Vail can be crowded but is huge so usually not a problem.

BC is usually empty, but farthest from Keystone.

Anyone have any tips/tricks/advice for a couple of first time skiers?

Me and my girlfriend are going to Lake Tahoe from Feb 28-March 4. Staying at Grand Residence Marriot at the base of Heavenly.

And DO take lessons, at least one day, probably two.

Yeah I think they have a little package that has a morning beginners class that includes your rental ski gear and an afternoon lift ticket. Was planning on doing that. I think that was $160ish if I recall right, I'll need to find it again.

Seconded. I take lessons every time I go. I want to improve as fast as possible and I've had a lot of success with lessons. I was comfortable with steep blacks and moguls on trip 2 after 6 days of lessons. I hit the ramps and got some tricks in by trip 4. 2 days is a minimum IMO for your first trip ever. You will progress quicker with private lessons also but probably not necessary for day 1.

First season in the Tetons has been pretty awesome so far. Ive spent a lot of days exploring Grand Teton NP and the backcountry options. The snowpack has been slowly stabilizing and we were able to push into some slightly steeper lines this past weekend.

Friday 1/11/19 - Chute the Moon
There was a thick cloud layer hanging around in the morning. As we skinned the ridge to the top of the chute, we started to rise above the cloud layer, and the sun started to shine.

At the top of the chute, lunch break:

Back into the clouds and into Chute the Moon:

Saturday 1/12/19 - Spoon Coulouir - Disappointment Peak
This was an all time day. We made an alpine start leaving Jackson at 5:15 and hitting the skin track by 6:15 in negative temps. Despite a slight routefinding mishap, we were up above the clouds to catch the sunrise. After passing Surpise and Amphitheater Lake, we started bootpacking straight up the Spoon Couloir, and up the east fast of Disappointment Peak.

Sunrise above the clouds, around 8000ft:

Spoon Couloir and the East Face of Disappointment Peak:
