i was told by my MIS group it could take a few hours so i left for the day (i was dead in the water) and the next day when i got to work it was updated.
my screen said 'do not turn off your computer' though so i was worried about messing something up by killing the power.

My last big Win update took most of the day, and after it was done and I restarted the machine, it was AWOL another hour.

is your hard drive indicator light flashing? If so, let it run.

MS update was taking forever and had Dell BIOS update too. Middle of the BIOS flash MS restart kicked in before I could even move the mouse to stop it.

well its depends how big the update file is
don't shut it down and risk corrupting the update

Don't. Go see a movie or something.

And so boys and girls… The moral of the story is don’t start the update until you’re ready to go to bed…
