Why is Apple so fricking retarded?

So I bought my wife a car that came with an Alpine head unit with USB.
I can plug my android in to play music but if she plugs her iPhone in she gets a "unknown device" error and can't play music or charge it.
Wtf Apple. Why must you make everything so fricking hard. You ruin the simplest things that should not require extra effort.
I guess I'm going shopping for a fricking Apple-blessed stereo now.

I've never known an Alpine unit to not work with Apple or any other common device. You sure it's not user error?

Eta found online PDF for this unit. It's model 126BT which apparently only supports iPods and iPhones up to model 3GS.

Why don't you just switch your wife off of apple already? I did with mine. She bitched for about 4 weeks straight but now she's glad i did.

Has to be. Scosche used to make an adapter, but it was for the old 30-pin ports.
You probably should upgrade the head unit anyway, CAD. Sounds like it's ancient in tech terms.

my 2 year 'wife droid' experience didn't end well so i moved her back to apple. she literally uses her phone to run her business and had no use for all the cool stuff i showed her on android.

it is. but it came with the car and i was going to show her how cool it was going to be to connect her phone.
i guess i'll go grab a new pioneer. i like pioneer better anyway.

Blame the company that made the head unit.

right. since every other phone except apple works its the OTHER GUYS fault

I get the won't play music part, but to not charge? That is really strange.

Sounds like the head units software was only updated to be compatible with Android or was never compatible with Apple.
You blind?
And if you haven't noticed, most third party units sold, until Android auto was released, won't play sound through USB for Android. You can't use Google play music unless you have music downloaded in a compatible format for USB mass storage.
Is that Android's fault? No. It's a software compatibility issue from the company who produced the unit.

+1 for Pioneer. I just installed a Pioneer MVH-X380BT from Crutchfield that works great with iPhone 7+. It's a digital media receiver without a CD player so if you need the cd function, look up the corresponding unit.

Just play CDs, the sound quality will be so much better.

Huh, so it's the best platform for running a business but can't do useless "cool stuff." Imagine that.
Upgrade your 10-year-old Circuit-City-arse Alpine head unit that probably cost $160 when new or get your wife a new $800 phone and replace all her current apps with Android ones. I dunno, tough choice.

He didn't say that. It's probably just his wife not being comfortable with something she doesn't understand.
