I see people on reddit and other sites just crying about having to have a notch on their phone. I don't see the big deal since it allows bezels to be smaller and prefer a notch to a big bezel.

they're ugly and people like to watch movies on their phones without a roadside curb in the way.

This is the one I don't get. They don't mind cropping off part of the top and bottom of the video as well as the corners so they can go full screen, but are pissed about the notch eating into part of the picture? You're going to purposefully cut off part of the picture then complain that part of the picture is cut off?

I have an iPhone X and you have the option for the video to take up the entire screen with the notch and or zoom out to have it without the notch. It's easy.

I mean it's either that or a solid black bar across the top. I'm glad they shoved those icons up there in what would otherwise be wasted space.

I never understood why having a 1/4" bezel on the top of the phone was a big deal.

Same but I know the answer.
We're no longer getting eaten by fricking bears and tigers and dying of malaria or smallpox. So instead a notch on a phone that we spent a lot of money on becomes our biggest issue in life.

It's kinda comical when you truly sit back and think about it.

it's not a big deal, but it is wasted space. Back in the 80s we thought the 4" bezel around our TVs was fine, but here we are with 3mm bezels.

I don’t get the complaints either. Where else are the front facing camera, Face ID sensors and earpiece supposed to go?

The only alternative is back to a bezel with no notcb.

I don't. I watch it in 16:9 as the Coen Brothers intended.

behind the screen?

i refuse to believe we don't have the technology to layer that shite behind the LED so it hidden like a 1970s 2 way mirror in a Sears dressing room. LED is..wait for it...

.........wait for it..........

...transparent.

why not? a thin LED mesh going to harm the sound coming out of the speakers if they're behind it? i bet any decent sound engineer could make the speakers sound fine even with the LED layer on top.

eta and we're arguing about sound quality coming out of tiny phone speakers.
