Is a VPN necessary with this? And I'm assuming seeding is a background process and I don't have to keep the website up.

No vpn. Keep your torrent client open. But rtfm on the site about how to setup the client.

I've never used a VPN for torrents and have never gotten a notice. Started out on piratebay with uTorrent. Had uTorrent a bit when I started ipt and now use some bt something or other on my Nvidia shield.

I have no idea what people have done that I've sent invites to. I guess it's all OK because I've never received any warning or anything.
You can check the stats of your active invites.

It varies. I can recommend both Tixati and Qbittorrent for both windows and linux platforms. I like them a lot.
Be sure to read the client guides on IPT. If you dont disable things like DHT and PEX, you will get banned. Using non-approved clients can lead to your upload and download tracking to be incorrect.

good ol' uTorrent 2.2.1 with 'check for updates' TURNED THE HELL OFF

So I finally figured out how to download.
But for anyone else, whenever you download something does it cut off internet access for everything else? As soon as I started downloading every device in the house couldn’t get internet access, including the browser on the computer. The torrent is still downloading though.
Edit: Ah, apparently you have to set download speed limits

Do you have bad Internet or something?

It isn't bad, but not gigabit either. Centurylink only has 100m/b fiber out here.
As soon as I limited download speed to 10 m/b everything worked fine including download and multiple streams.

I have not looked into this much but do they have high quality options that have at least 5.1 sound? 4K or just 1080? If they have say a 4K 5.1 file, about how big is it? I’m in the market for a NAS and looking at how much TB I want to shoot for.

I'll grab a screenshot of a recent big movie so you can see the selection
