Does anyone know if the iPhone 11 has the capability to control a not-smart tv? I’ve googled and am guessing I’m not phrasing the question correctly. My last phone was a Samsung that had an app that could connect to most TVs. Cant figure out which app I need to get to make this phone work as every app so far wants me to connect to the same network.

Any help is appreciated.

Samsung used to imbed an infrared LED transmitter in their phones allowing them to control basically any device that accepts IR input. Apple does not.

If you go to streaming, you can get an app to control your device (Fire, Roku, etc.). The new Fire remote can also control your TV volume and turn the power on and off.

No

The phone can’t do it on its own

For about $50 you can buy a handful of things that could do this. The Logitech Harmony Hub would be the one I recommend.
