re: USB Type-C to become common charging port for all mobile phones, tablets and cameras in EU

I have to agree with you. Lightning cables are often more expensive than other cables. Yet aren't built any better. I have burned through numerous lightning cables that typically break after 6 months. Some right out of the box slipped right out of the port. And wouldn't charge. And I would like the convenience of only needing one cable to charge all my devices.

Of course there is someone in this thread championing lightning over usb-c. That's hilarious and everything he brought up was completely false.

I understand the EU is concerned about recycling and landfill with this decision.

As an iPad Pro user, it would definitely be nice to only have to keep one charger around for my phone and iPad.

About fricking time. Apple invents the shite and continues to ride the lightning connector for nearly half a decade later despite switching their laptops to USBC and yet forcing everyone to buy dongles out the wazoo for their phones.

The lightning connector is there to make apple money, that is why they refuse to move to USB-C.
That being said not sure the law states that they can't put chips in the cables and force apple users to only use Apple USB-C cables. My guess they build proprietary USB-C cables that allow full use of the USB-C spec and purposefully limit non apple cables.

I'm far too tired to go read the law, but I have to think that there is generic language that the cable has to adhere to the open USB spec, which would forbid a proprietary chip.

Na, probably one generation of phone with usb-c, then they'll just go wireless charging with no port at all.

Again, nobody is forcing you to buy apple products if you don't like them. If lightning is so bad then don't buy an iPhone. Jesus. You fricks always want to legislate what everyone else does. '

I like lightning better and this is not a false statement.
usb-c can definitely be improved upon and you all support legislation that limits innovation. This is objectively true.
What will happen instead is that apple will remove the ports all together in 2-3 years and everyone else will follow. How is that better?
